Great, superb or perfect .. Help please!

Hi first time poster here. Great forum, looking for some help from you guys if that's ok.

I have had my Rolex Explorer for 2 years now and love it to pieces. It's a great watch, rugged and reliable and keeps great time.

A little bit about myself, I'm a disabled guy who had a bad accident a few years ago and had to retire early (31yrs old) because of it. I have lost a significant parts of my life and a lot of my hobbies as I was a keen sportsman.

I'm now looking to take up a new hobby and since buying the Explorer I have
Researched many brands and bothered the heck out of dealers about a variety of watches.

After all that I keep coming back to Rolex as they seem to have a range of watches that you can ware every day and receive minimal ware and tear.
They are great looking, reliable and offer good service options so I have decided to base my collection around them.

I have some disposable income coming my way ( and I can't emphasise disposable enough) of about £50k. I'm looking to start a collection. Basically I love the sport watches as they are so multi use in terms of dress attire.

Option 1
Great- hulk, SD4k & explorer

Option 2
superb- hulk, SD4K, explorer and smurf- which is my all time Grail

Option3
Perfect- hulk, sd4k, explorer, smurf and dssd.

I don't really want anymore than 5 watches as I want to make sure they are all worn regular. I'm mostly in casual clothes jeans etc?

What do you guys think, should I go whole hog or hold back?

Any advice is welcome. I've learnt so much from this forum, it seems there are a lot of great people in this community. Thanks

Welcome. Not sure why you would just get so many watches so quick. Get one, enjoy it for a little while, by then you'll know what comes next.

yep i would buy one and put the money in stocks until you are ready to buy the next

however having been in similar position to you (both the negative and positive events that you mentioned) can perfectly understand the want to spend a large amount all at once, and, if you did want to buy more in the future can easily liquidate the pieces you purchased

Welcome

Perhaps start with one and settle into it before thinking about others?
If the WG Sub is your grail, and attainable, maybe get that and enjoy it for a while before considering what might join it.

That said, it's your choice so go for your life.

I don't think the DSSD, sd4k and hulk will play together well.. Overlapping in my opinion.

Sorry to learn of your accident. This is a great online community, so welcome.
As far as your watch choices are concerned, pick out the one you like the most and put the others on hold for awhile.

Well come to the forum! I do not like to buy many watches at once. I rather buy one grail and wait for a few months or even a year before hunting the next. If you like sport watches maybe consider a Platona or a GMT BLRO.

Welcome to TRF, if you got the smurf you would have no desire for the rest....... why not go that option then consider something different. Go slow so you have time to enjoy each.

You've come to the right forum, friend!

Personally I'd buy the grail with one good buddy to switch with. Make a planned investment in the market, buy a nice camera, and pick a few spots for some pretty pretty wrist shots to bring to your new friends

Definitely agree with the sentiment in this thread to go slowly and buy one and live with it for a while. Get to know it, give it some significant wrist time and then after a bit you'll know which to buy next.

Take it slowly!

All the best.

Would get the Smurf and wear and enjoy it, you may change your mind on what if any you want after that ...

The weight, look and feel of the white gold with the blue dial and bezel is a show stopper!!

Going against the tide here, but I too sometimes have been known to binge buy. You can get better deals if you buy more than one at a time. Not sure why, just the way it works out sometimes for me.

But to answer your question, smurf and hulk would be great pair. Can you imagine the incredible hulk holding hands with a smurf?

When it comes to Rolex I guess I've decided there are no wrong choices; only what one likes. As long as you like it and feel comfortable with it, do what feels good.

For your consideration:

A. Smurf and EXP II Polar 42mm
B. Smurf and GMT-C (or BLNR)
C. Smurf and DSSD
D. DSSD and BLNR
E. SD-C and EXP II Polar 42mm

Most of all buy what sings to you the most. You'll know after you've tried each one at an AD.

Welcome aboard and happy hunting!

But seriously, like some said on this thread, just go slow and enjoy each piece as you go. Each model has its own personality. No need to rush and get them all at once.... unless that's your thing.

If it were me I would go with the Smurf, Hulk, SD4k, and the change out the Explorer for the BLNR. I like to have a combination of PCL's and BCL's for a different look.

You could also switch the SD4k for a Polar Exp II to have four different color dials.

Post pics once you buy them.

Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about the accident, but there still are a lot of satisfying hobbies out there, and watch collecting is a good one, albeit expensive!

I'd hold back a little, spend a little more time trying on those favorite pieces you named, they are all GREAT watches, try on the smurf, the LV, etc, see if any bring a smile to your face more then the other ones.
I'd buy that one first.

I like to spend time learning the history of the models, and when you do, not only will you appreciate the watch/brand more, but might get you interested in acquiring a vintage/special time piece or two.

personally, I love the single red 1680 submariners, such a cool watch.

here's some good info if you're in the least bit curious about the vintage rolex divers.
