James Bond Pre Daytona Goes to Auction WOW

Sharing because I thought this was pretty cool.

"JAMES BOND'S PRE-DAYTONA CHRONOGRAPH WATCH
George Lazenby's infamous turn as the world's most famous secret agent nearly tanked the franchise. Yet his timepiece might be the most valuable to have ever graced 007's wrist. James Bond's Pre-Daytona Chronograph Watch was worn by Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but that's not its only claim to fame. Eon Productions special ordered it for the film, requesting a red second hand as opposed to the standard stainless steel, as it plays a key role in one of the movie's scenes. As a result, it's the only reference 6238 in the world with this detail, and is made all the more desirable by the fact that it's in excellent condition."

I don't recall, if I ever knew, what significance did the red hand (second hand according to the article) have in the movie?

I think there is a close up as he times the cable car, there may be a second close up in the movie as well. Assume a red hand was for visibility on screen. Isn't there a movie Speedmaster also with a red second hand?

Interesting. This piece was also shown as sold a few years ago on Matthew Bain's site.

http://www.matthewbaininc.com/watch-details/429

In the pics from Bain the watch has the early correct thinner subdial hand on the left register while the recent auction pics appear to show a thick hand there.

Weren't there multiple watches with competing claims to be the one from the film?

Dina collection, also has this piece (Asking price is 120k). Very strange

http://www.thedinacollection.com/Jam...tch_p/jm_w.htm

Edit: Both adverts, depict two different pieces based upon their serial numbers, Auction: 1206513, Dina collection: 1206613. The auction site also mentions this: "This piece was acquired by the accounting of production, which offered for sale at Christie's London, South Kensington, on 16 December 2003. It is important to note that during this sale, an error was made in the catalog description indicates the number of series 1206613 instead of 1206513. the watch is sold directly by the purchaser of this sale to the current owner, a private collector. in every respect this legendary model, the Pre-Daytona, Grail is the ultimate and absolute for a vintage collector. Our copy has the advantage of being the only 6238 reference used by the famous secret agent of Her Majesty, 007". Eon productions supposedly only ordered one piece. Yet there are two for sale. With the one from dina collection, bearing the same serial number. That was mistakenly mentioned in the Chrisites lot in 2003 . Something's amiss

I like that this is a one of a kind piece, and they pop the serial number in the pics. You would think they would disclosed this info only to buyer

Wasn't there a post about this on the forum recently showing the original sales invoice made out to EON?
