I'm guessing it's not a Rolex reference (at least not the "/B") but rather an AD applied sticker denoting a YG Oysterquartz with black dial?

When I look to the shape of the sticker it looks not regular the lettertype look that it comes from an printer.

Are there are printers in that period??

The 19018 was sold from 1977 until 1985 then was ther an N placed behind the 19018 model.

I saw a box with the same B at the end of the number and that was coming from Rolex with a white dial. Later the owner bought a black dial.

Interest is that the box with the white dial is coming from a dutch AD.

The box that I bought is coming from the US.

I was working at an AD at that time.

We had drawers full of Oyster boxes and we took out the appropriate box (mens steel/ladies steel/mens gold/ladies gold) without further checking the dial colors etc.

I am sure that it worked that way with other ADs, too.

Oke, when i understand you correct, the watch is not coming in the box from Rolex.

So as a AD you have to order boxes from Rolex or are these boxes coming empty together with the watch in some kind of transportbox?

Rolex watches come in a small plastic container, packed in a larger reinforced lock-box. They are shipped secure, under lock-and-key, with armed transport. A shipping container of Rolex watches can be valued in the millions of dollars.

The boxes and booklets are shipped by regular carrier in a cardboard box and are not part of the secure watch shipments.

Dealers match up the watch with all the accessories.

For what it's worth, I have a 18038 box from the mid-1980's and it, too, has the "B" on it.

The colour of the dial is denoted by the white round sticker, black dial have a round black sticker.
B, I think is the bracelet designation.
Jubilee or oyster.

I think the sticker is fake because the shape is not regular!

My dial is champagne colored, and the round sticker on the box has the same color as my dial.

Now only the last piece of the puzzle what means the capitol letter B

Quite often when Rolex has a "forward slash" (/) after a model number it separates the numbers for the watch head from the bracelet. I wonder if the "B" might simply be shorthand for 8385 since that is the bracelet most commonly fitted to 18038 watch heads of that vintage.

Just a thought........but maybe this explanation will et you get some sleep tonight!

One more thought.....the end links on the 8385 President bracelet are 55B. Maybe that's where the "B" comes from?
