Incoming for the wifey!

So, a couple of years back my wife fell in love with the 14000 salmon (pink) faced Air King. My wife hasn't worn a watch in many years so I thought maybe it was a passing crush. As time went on, she would mention it, she even saw it in an ad in a magazine and kept on about this watch. I told her that the 114200 was a newer model with a much better band - She could care less as long as it has that salmon dial is my guess.

2 weeks ago, she saw another used 14000 salmon dial at an estate sale, I had to physically restrain her from it - I personally think the 114200 is miles better than the 14000 but again, she doesn't care.

I have been looking for a good example of this watch for about a year, casually of course. Nothing. Nada. I contacted a few trusted sellers here, nothing. All the other color dials seemed to be no problem, this salmon dial however is a PITA. Fast forward to last week, I thought I found a nice used example from a dealer in Dallas (to remain unnamed). I got the watch on Tuesday and when I pulled it out my heart sunk... The dial was a swap, the hands had NO LUME yet the dial did, that was one way to tell it was a swap. Next, it was an older dial, I think from a 14000. This particular dial did NOT say Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. It just said Precision. I immediately contacted the dealer and said it was being returned The crystal was chipped on the edge too

I contacted a local dealer who was able to get me a brand new 114200-PNKASO. It was a bit more than the used example but hey, it has a 5 year warranty and at least I know the example is proper and correct. I had to drive 50 miles today, the Friday before Christmas in LA traffic to get it though. I'm pretty sure the wifey wouldn't care either way so long as the dial is the proper color But for me, I have some weird sort of inner peace knowing that it is the way it should be - maybe I'm nuts

Anyway, I think she will be floored and thanks for listening to my story. Now for a pic

Glad the return was no hassle (except the aggravation!).

That watch is a gorgeous classic with a beautiful dial. I found myself just staring at your picture.

Well done, Scott!

Beautiful. I'm unlucky (or lucky, depends on your point of view) that the wife doesn't want a watch. Been trying to talk her into a Rolex for quite some time.

Great looking watch and that was a cool story! Congrats!

I'm NOT gonna show my wife this one (because I know she would love it.) I think I'll just hunt this year and surprise her next year.
