Spelunking, though none of these watches are great "tools" for any "sport". Maybe 40 years ago, but today they're just cool watches with a ton of history.

There was a time when Rolex could hardly give Daytonas away.

Now, with clever marketing and distribution, they've become highly sought after, and by people who don't even bother to use the chronograph complication, or so many have claimed.

Rolex has a very diverse line and as has been noted, what is the "ultimate," is a highly variable perception.

For a lot of people, it's not just a given model, but a particular precious metal version of a given model.

If I thought the Daytona was the ultimate model, I'd sell all my watches and buy one, but I won't, because I bought watches that were attractive to me and they remain so to this day.

If there's a Daytona in my future, it's going to have to wait, which is just as well, because I won't be paying a premium for one.

That's for you to decide. You can make the argument for it and that says a lot.

They look a little small on the wrist. Gmt or sub is a better choice for your only watch.

Bought one due to the Icon hype, flipped it less than a year. It is a nice looking watch, perhaps if it was a little bigger I could possibly get into it again.

I may be a little weird around here, but after owning a few Rolexes, I realized my ultimate Rolex is the plain old black dial Exp II. It's now the only watch I wear, and I don't have any interest in a Daytona.
