Possibly yes. You would miss out on all the latest advantages of a modern Rolex (ceramics, super luminova, better clasp) but you would end up with a classy mint vintage.

If you asked me this question 1 year ago, I would have said either add or no go.
Today I would say, GO for it! I let go of my BLNR which was my first watch purchase, and I wore only that watch for a long long time. I was absolutely in love with it. As my tastes evolved, I decided that keeping it simply because it was my first watch ever didnt make enough sense, as I didnt enjoy it as much. Needless to say. If you feel like it isnt as enjoyable, or if you would enjoy the 5513 any more, definitely do it! Good luck. |

Apples and oranges, so it depends on what you like. Can you post photos of the 5513?
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I think the BLNR GMT is the coolest modern Rolex, and I've tried a lot of them, including the new Daytona-C and SDK4, both of which I flipped. I've been collecting vintage for about 20 years, but I always need at least one modern watch to rotate. |

Trade BLNR for 5513
Have you owned vintage before? One thing to consider is how your brain will interpret wearing the "old" watch.
I've owned several vintages ranging back to 1967 and as much as I loved the charm of the patina and the rattly bracelets, I found myself not wearing the watch to my hearts content. Knocks would make me wince, water made me nervous, etc. I was always tense that something would break (due to age, not lack of ruggedness) and lacked the confidence of the modern references. I know this is somewhat irrational as these are tough pieces even in their age, but just another perspective. Sent from my iPhone 7+ using Tapatalk |

Very much personal preference and would depend on what else you have in your collection or plan to have.
I went through a vintage only phase and love vintage Rolex, but it was a little different wearing 50 year old watches. I struggled wearing them for certain activities (gym, golf, water) so gradually moved back to modern for the easy wearability. Vintage as a one and only might be tough depending on your lifestyle. Although 80's vintage may be more practical than 60's vintage. Is it a Maxi 5513?

As an only watch? Ummm maybe if it's in excellent condition and you won't mind getting it wet etc. As others have said maybe selling and shopping around for a 5513 and then perhaps adding a 16710? Any how a great and fun problem to have. I have both and I am pretty covered for a number of activities.

Hi Greg-
As many of us, I started with the modern references...Daytona, SD4k...and matured into transitional...14060.....and landed squarely in the vintage world with no hope of escape! I read the arguments in favor of moderns but I don't see the concern practically. If your vintage watch is serviced and maintained it is as reliable as it was at point of sale. The acrylic crystal takes the knocks and scratches easily buff out. The only issue I can see is that related to the uniqueness of vintage: each watch will have an irreplaceable factor related to patina of dial and case, and this factor *may* affect ones attitude towards usage. That and the fact these watches can cost so much more than their modern counterparts is something to consider. I wear my watches all in a daily rotation, and I take them off when I swim and participate in activities in which they could get beat up. I've got Casios and Timex for the rough stuff. In my mind, it's reckless to wear $10-$20k on the wrist and flail about. Vintage or Modern. But that's just me. Good luck in your decision. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Since this is the vintage section, yes absolutely. This is from someone who collects vintage but recently got the blnr. Yes it has all the modern amenities, but it doesn't have the charm n allures of vintage pieces.
I blame it on the autoconnect. |

I would make the trade ASAP.
You can buy a BLNR any day of the week. Finding a mint 5513 is much, much harder. |

Trade BLNR for 5513
If it's mint and it's box and papers I would make that trade all day long.

Not familiar with the vintage world, but I think it's better to add rather than let go of the BLNR. Good luck deciding.

No doubt I'd go for the 5513....The BLNR is a nice piece and all but it sure does seem like everyone has one....I'm not saying the 5513 is super rare either but you will be hard pressed to find a mint condition matte 5513 especially as prices on vintage pieces continue to climb...and climb at a hell of a lot faster rate than the BLNR ever will...or at least not any time soon. If you've never owned a vintage piece compared to a new such as your GMT I don't want you to be, shall I say disappointed? I say that mainly bc they are just so much lighter and honestly don't feel as nearly well built...when in fact they are....as stated above we're talking two completely different animals but being a vintage guy....I'd again say to go for the 5513, but do what you REALLY want as buyers remorse is never a good thing...

I wouldn't hesitate. I've owned my BLNR for a shade over two years and, if I'm perfectly honest, it bores me.
Good luck

As a vintage watch your choice would seem great but as a word of caution, birth year watches etc or watches that are 'made' in a particular year are not always what they seem. Rolex watches especially of that era are mostly put together from parts made at different times so it would be rare that you get a watch from a particular year, rather one watch from various years sold within a particular year.

I have been in the vintage watch game before as well as the vintage car game and I want nothing to do with it. No offense to those that enjoy it but it further complicates a fun hobby. Questions abound, is it what it is suppose to be, am I paying a fair price, will the market change, can I get it serviced and do the parts exist. On and on it goes. I prefer modern Rolexes, Cars and most everything else. Does not mean that I don't appreciate the beauty of older items, I just don't want to own them. Keep the BLNR.
