Going to acquire my first AP a 15400 or 15710

Hello all,

I am new to this forum but also hopefully soon to AP!
I am about to buy my first piece and was hesitating between the 15400 or a 15710.

I have a little preference for a 15400 as of now, but was wondering which one is the most versatile?

Also, what are the typical discount I can hope for these watches?

rgds

I was looking at he same two models myself slightly favouring the 15400 but when I tried both on the 15710 diver blew me away and was surprised how much I liked it. So best to try both on and what one you like best.

Same. For some reason the 15400 felt BIGGER. I know its a strange thing to say but the 15710 whilst is a heavy watch, is very balanced and sits really snug, I love mine. Just feel the Royal oak is the classic at 39mm. But thats just me.

Both are very good. I think the 15400 is more versatile than the 15710, however.

Just buy both

Thank you all for your responses. I also start to believe the 15400 is more versatile...
Especially as I already own a Panerai & a Chopard Mille Miglia and none of them have a stainlessS bracelet.

Any idea window what % discount should I receive for a 15400?

The 15400 is definitely more versatile, but you definitely need to try both on. The 15400 is thinner, but wears large still. The Diver is chunkier, but I feel like it wears its size a little better on my smaller wrist.

Ok you wasn't clear on where from, chrono24 etc then yes but I wouldn't say it 20% min more like 20 or so at max! The majority are 10-15%

Not at a UK AD but I'd love to be proved wrong!

Greys have a few around 20% but the majority are 10-15% for BNIB

Strange right? I had the same experience. My wrist is thin and the 15400 looked big but the diver seems to fit so comfy even tho its so chunky and heavy.

I think the 15400 is a bit more versatile, as it strikes a good balance between sporty and dressy.

Well I would say 20% minimum because if there advertising for 20% off and you walk in with cash the minimum your getting is 20% off

Thanks all for your responses.
I am still struggling to decide.... :-)
Also, I am now wondering why is the 15710 a little more expensive than a 15400 while on a rubber strap ?
It has the same calibre so, I dont believe the casing of the 15710 is more expensive or is it?

It's more expensive because it's a ROO and AP chose to make it more expensive. Don't think too hard on it. I would do the 15400 easily over a basic diver. I really think the diver is a boring looking watch except the FC and CE versions. CE being the better one :).

Definitely go with the 15400 over a steel diver.

I prefer the 15300 size/fit of the Royal Oak over the 15400 so I would go with the 15710.

I would go 15400, the bracelet is magic. No one except AP does anything like it. I have both a 15400 and a ce diver... Regards to 15300 comments, I prefer 15400, no 15300 has the double stick 12-index. And yes... I have worn a few 15300 and I do understand the critical some has regards to bezel proportions... The 15400 is nicer than 15300.

My first was a Diver and I loved it but now I'd probably go with the bracelet and if the blue dial then no question.

Owning a Panerai PAM312 and a Chopard Mille Miglia, I currently tend to favor the 15400 as the 2 others are thicker and less of a dress watch.
Not having these 2 maybe the 15710 would have been a good choice.

I am actually more thinking of the 15400 with the black dial... why would some prefer the blue dial ? Does it play as well with light than the black dial?

So 20% at an AD is correct or should I easily find one that could push it to 25% or more?

At these prices, 5% difference makes a difference.

People are just obsessed with blue because that is the original color of the RO.

In all fairness the blue definitely has more range than the black, and I've owned the black.

No the 20% is from grey dealers but there is no difference your still getting the same watch and warranty so buy from chrono24 and yes push for 25% off now. A lot are advertising still at 20% off or slightly more so if you go to there shop with the cash I would be surprised if they didn't go to 25% off.

Well, I tried today to negotiate into a AD shop for an 15400 but I was no way close to even a 20%..... So my negotiating skills seem at best rusty.... .... so walked out of the shop with nothing other than the cash I was ready to spend. :-)
