Finding some friends to hang out with some sticks

It was about 9 years ago that I was able to find 2 sticks, otherwise known as
16710 GMT2 M series 3186 Pepsi and Coke. The AD's that I purchased them directly from had no idea what they had and I was even able to get a discount. Through the years they got lonely 😉 staying in thier NOS condition, like they still are today.

As the years passed I was able to find a friend named BLNR when it was released to hang out with the stick brothers 😋. It's been great hanging out with BLNR for many years now.

As more years passed the stick brothers and BLNR wanted a new friend which has lead up to more recently I was able to find a minty series D friend. To help make series D not feel left out I was able to find 2 outfit changes so he could feel like his 2 stick brothers.

Hope you enjoyed the story and the pictures👍

Nice watches but not all of the so called stick or error dial GMTs had a cal 3186, many still had the cal 3185 with that font change.

Was about to say the same thing.

How did you know the movements on those two (beautiful watches btw) are 3186? Side note: I own a "stick dial" 16710 very very late Z serial with a 3185 movement.

Thank for the compliments!!
I had my AD open the back when I got them and got to personally verify the 3186 movements inside.
The extra bezel in the picture is the black one, I wish it was a blueberry

Great watches! Which one do you prefer? The 5 or 6 digit GMT's?

I'm thinking about trading my BLNR for a 16710, but i'm not sure yet..

I like them both for different reasons, so that is why I keep them along with 100 other reasons

There is something to be said about Vintage and New

I must admit that finding the extra bezels has been the hardest thing to do and has taken years of asking and getting lucky. What even makes it harder is to ensure you have a real one and not fake. Keep looking, asking and search different forums. Also, be prepared to spend a little to get the real thing..

Thanks again for all the nice replies....

Nice GMT's you have there. Just to get it straight the 2 stick dial GMT's you don't even wear because you want to keep them in NOS condition?

Correct. I have several others and was able to keep these NOS. I might decide to wear one someday, but having a series D with the other 2 bezels gives me the option to "essentially" wear the same thing. As you probably know based on Rolex production there is a fairly small amount of these that were made (nobody knows exactly) especially being the last M series and having both NOS.. U don't find many of these in NOS M series out there for sale..

No need to pop the caseback to check if a 3186 is under there. Search youtube for a 'wiggle test' video.

Looks great, congrats! Love the GMTs.

On a personal note, I never understood keeping a watch NOS in the safe. You could certainly have made more money in the market in the last 10 years with the cash you spent on the watches, and you didn't get the enjoyment that they could provide because they weren't worn... seems like a loose/loose to me, but to each his own.

Thanks for the compliments..

I understand your position on keeping them NOS, but they were overall not to much considering today's prices. It has also been interesting to see the value increase as much as they have for this version, which ironically would be at or above what the market would have returned if I had put the money somewhere else. Also if I wanted to I can start wearing one and it will feel like gettting a new watch

By all means, sell one for a nice profit and wear the life out of the other! They are beauties!
