Advice Sought....stay patient or buy another watch?

My name is on the waiting list (as it seems we all are) for the new Daytona. However, i really don't want to wait another year or more (potentially) or pay a $4-5k premium via the secondary market, so i'm thinking about adding another watch to my collection while i wait it out.

I currently own a 116610LN and as much as i love the GMT, i don't think i want another black faced watch unless i went with the 18k Pepsi (more than want to spend at this time as well), so the Batman and the old Sea Dweller are out. That leaves me 2 choices that i'm wrestling with at this time, seeing as there is no way i will be able to get a SS SkyDweller anytime soon either.

The choice is between a Rhodium YM or a Rhodium DJ2.

I think the DJ2 is the better option, but i don't now how much i'd wear it since it has diamonds in it. It seems like the YM is probably a bit more versatile. I'd really like a DJ2 w/ a white face, but it only comes in 36mm.

Thoughts?

dj2. im going for a SS and white sky dweller. dont think it will be as sought after as the black or the blue.

I'm not keen on diamonds for men, but that is my own old fashion viewpoint.

If it were me and I really wanted the daytona, I would search trusted sellers and ADs and pay a premium to get it now. But I am older and time is precious. I would pay a premium if I could afford it to own a luxury object if I really, really loved it.

But if you are younger, you can afford to be patient. But I would not buy a watch in place of the daytona just to mark time. Not my kind of strategy. But it is your life so live it as you see fit. Best of luck.

im pretty confused. you can get a ceramic daytona for 2000-2500 more than retail (including tax) today. but this 4-5k is no longer the case.

Welcome to TRF. Of the two choices you have, I'd go for the YM. It's a just a great all around watch.

Or you could do what I did and pay the premium and get yourself the Daytona. It only hurts when you're writing the check.

I really want the white Daytona, but $2k premium is a pretty good price point for the black. Thanks again for all the links you shared.

I'd vote for the rhodium YM. Think it will be more versatile , and as stated above not sure about diamonds on men's watches

The YM, but it used and then trade for the D500 when your time comes.

It seems that you're not fully convinced with either so my advice would be to wait it out until you get the DaytonaC or pay the premium to get it now.

I'm think you'd lose anywhere between 2-4k in depreciation you were to buy either the DJ2 or YM now (assuming BNIB) then decide to sell later when your place in queue comes up for the DaytonaC. IMO you might as well pay the premium to get what you really want!

I really like the YM. I like it enough to purchase it. I am just itching to add a watch to my collection and really don't want to wait another couple years before i get the Daytona.

I have that Rhodium DJ2 and I would say go for the YM. It's more versatile. I love my DJ2 but i reserve that watch for when I'm in a suit or dressed up.

Check out the new SS DJ41 in white

I have a feeling both it and the SS Sky Dweller won't be as difficult as some of the SS professional models are when released. Non-professional Oyster models drive a lot of Rolex revenue globally , so these will probably see more often on shelves. I guess we'll see in a few months, but I wouldn't rush. Some of these models may hit ADs sooner than expected.

Why don't you try to negotiate the price on the Daytona?

I guess the thing that concerns me the most is wiring/sending a payment for $15k to someone i don't know. Also, the more i look at the Daytona's, the more i am conflicted on purchasing the white or the black face. I have been leaning towards the white face for months and now that i'm actively looking for one in the secondary market, i find myself drawn to the black dial.

The hands on the DateJust are very hard for me to read. As a conservative man, I don't prefer diamonds on anything I wear. But, on that DateJust, they are not obtrusive. The Yacht Master just doesn't do anything for me. I have an older DateJust on a Jubilee bracelet and it's my most comfortable go anywhere watches. I'd vote for the DateJust with a different face.

What about the new 41 mm DJ in rhodium? It's jubillee rather than oyster however but no diamonds which I'm with you on, they aren't my thing either? Good luck!

I wouldn't buy a watch "just because".... kind of would take the fun out of it.

That being said, I really like the new YM.
