Appraisal for Insurance in NYC

Can anyone recommend where to get an appraisal for a new rolex in NYC for insurance purposes? Thanks.

Congratulations! Which model did you purchase? Show us photos!!

Now, to your question:
  • If you purchased your new watch from a Rolex Authorized Dealer (AD), "easy peasy!" Just ask them; they will almost certainly provide one for you at no additional charge.
  • If you purchased your new watch from the grey market you should ask your seller to provide one which he/she may or may not do. If they do they may or may not charge you for it.
  • If you purchased from the grey market and they will not provide you with one or if you purchased from some independent seller who cannot provide one you can probably get one from any licensed appraiser. If you need to do this why not just go to Rolex (either the Rolex Service Center or an Authorized Dealer) so you have the peace of mind that the person doing it is familiar with the watch. One thing to know is if you fall into this category and the appraiser is dilligent / thorough, they will need to authenticate the piece which means they will have to take the back off and vizualize / photograph the movement. Most of us here would prefer to not to have to "crack the case" of a new Rolex for this purpose but you may not have any choice.
  • Lastly, you can surely can a "quick and dirty" appraisal from some lesser regarded sources and this may work for insurance purposes depending upon the insurance company and underwriter. There is short term and long term risk to this approach and I, personally, do not recommend it.

Hope this helps!
Congrats again!

I'd also add that if the watch is under 10k jewelers mutual will not require an appraisal. Otherwise the above advice is good!

I tried signing up with JM for my sub and speedy and it asked for an appraisal. Did this recently change?

My sub was purchased from a store in IL and the speedy was grey market off here.

Any advice is appreciated.

A

P.S. Also in NYC.

I would think any watch dealer could give you an appraisal but you would have to pay for it. If you get from the AD you bought it from, it will be free.
