One, two, or no spaces after a period?

I'm old school. Learned to type on a typewriter in school and taught to use 2 spaces after a period or question mark.

I know with the modern keyboard this changed and only one is acceptable.

I see some people not using a space at all after a period. This makes it a bit hard to read for me.

It's a tough habit to break. How about you?

Modern fonts, proportionally spaced, only 1 space after a period. Yes on typewriter is was 2. No spaces is not correct.

I've never read the rule, but I noticed early on with computers that two spaces after a period is excessive.

Congratulations on being someone who actually cares about punctuation.

Two spaces for a full stop, one for a pause (comma).

^^^^ Me too... but am adapting.
Actually, for me, fast track learning especially when naming files to be computer-saved (eg: nospaces ).

Used to be 2 for me, as that is what I learned in grade school. In college I have been told to use 1.

I'm 32 with a degree in English; I use 2 spaces. I had an introductory professor insist on it, and the lesson stuck.

Nothing wrong with adaptation to modern norms, so 1 space works for me. I use the Oxford comma, and there was a company that recently lost a large wage settlement case because they did not use one.

I usually use two spaces, although with some fonts one space seems plenty.

Associated Press style guide, which is an almost universal style guide for English newspapers around the world, says one space.

You and me both. (Well, until I die for me. I won't stop using 2 spaces if you die first.)

If you learned to type on a typewriter, it was always two spaces. It seems one is the acceptable route these days. Microsoft Word accepts both with spell and grammar check which gets me because sometimes I use two spaces.

No space is unacceptable IMO

Two spaces for me. Learned on a typewriter and have never changed. I tried a while back, but have to consciously think about it which really slows me down.

One now. I also learned on a manual typewriter in the seventh grade (Thanks Mrs Heineman!) and was taught to use a double space. It just doesn't appear correct to me while using a computer.
