Lovely looking thing but am specifically looking for a piece in rose gold.

The 5167R isn’t as much as a scratch magnet as some will have you believe.

If you’re a careful wearer, you will only get the hairline swirls on the case as you would do wearing any watch over time.

However, if you’re rough with the watch, the detailed finished edges are vulnerable and you could do some damage which would be costly to rectify.

5167R vs 5205R

As far as a scratch magnet goes , my experience with 5164R is that it is a scratch magnet. That being said , I was super careful and keep it as mint as possible.
2 things with that : 1) it took enjoyment away from wearing the watch 2) there is a variable than no one can judge accurately, for example if you are a guy that buy a pair of shoes and in 2 months they look like you went to war with them , you are in trouble .

There are friends of mine , that they really don’t take the extra care with their Nautilus or Aquanaut and they keep them in very good condition. No problem. Give it to me and believe me I will take extra care needed and still the bezel won’t look as good as the one of those guys . Like I said there is a variable that I guess only you can find out

Cheers

Thanks both for your replies. I just know that whilst I am careful - I have a desk job but do travel a lot, and don't do DIY type activities at weekends you still do manage to pick up the odd knock here and there.
I know that when I went to sell my smurf the guy noticed that I had dented the edge of the crown which lord knows how I could have done it and certainly don't remember catching it - but clearly I did - which of course affected the value.

I just love that 5167R . . . . .

My thinking is that the 5205R is more "special", has more complications and yet remains a clear, easy to read face. I like the brown leather strap, and the one I'm going to look at is on a Calatrava clasp.
From what I have seen it is more dressy than the 5167R but can still be worn in casual situations and the bezel appears to be less likely to be bashed given the more traditional bezel.

Only downsides I can think of, is the lack of lume on the hour markers and hands.

Are there people here who own or have owned both references and if so which one gets more wrist time and why ? Investment potential (5167 being more "desirable") is not a consideration.

Thanks

How in the world did you find a 5167R? Or did you "pre-order" it from your AD?

I couldnt find it even if my life depended on it. Let alone a 5164R and that's even more $.

I just put down my deposit for the 5205G-013. I should be receiving it within the next 3-6 months.

On the grey market. Couple of places in Europe selling them for between EUR29-33k for new or nearly new (< 6 months)

So you paid a mark-up on it. I thought you got it from an AD.

I can't justify paying the mark-up from the grey market. I'm going to sit on my hands until an AD offers me one of the more expensive Patek sport models. I've given up hope on acquiring a 5711A & 5712A

I just bought my 50th birthday gift to me.

Thanks all for the patience, help and advice. Have to say it was a picture from BenLee that pushed me over the edge.

Now the long wait !

I have the 5205R and the exact same model that you tried, so I will be biased and say I prefer the 5205R. That said, the 5167R is not far away and more versatile and you can dress down with it. 5205R in RG/white really needs to go with long sleeve.

I saw your foto on the thread about Annual Calendars and your 5205R on that brown almost redish strap is just stunning.

Is that a Patek strap ?

Thank you. The 5205R looks brilliant in natural lighting. Here's another pic

Thanks again Ben

I just had confirmation from the dealer that they have swapped the black strap for a brown and the calatrava deployment so hopefully in just over a week I will have this on my wrist.

Gotta be honest. That white dial 5205 is really nice. Lotta watch for the money.

We did a video unboxing earlier this evening . . . . . just wow.

Congrats!
I think 5205R is one of the most beautiful dress watches in the current collection.
