Unworn Newman 6263 shows up at Antiques Roadshow

US Air Force member bought new in early 70's, never wore it. Full kit with everything including still attached case back sticker

OMG. That's insane! I assume the owner will now try to sell it to cash in, but who knows. The headline says it was never worn, but I wonder how the print on case-back sticker was partially rubbed off, not that it matters. What a great story about an incredible watch!

Very cool! Based on the sticker condition, I’m guessing it was worn very, very carefully then put away for years and is in NOS condition

The TRF OCD nit-pickers will now be finding ways to drop the value $10K - $20K.

What an absolutely amazing find I agree it’s been worn very lightly but all the same a brilliant watch.

Nah, not really. The only issue is the headline on the story, saying the watch was "unworn." No one really cares, of course. The watch looks mint, and the story is great too.

just curious, would you be able to authenticate a PN dial based on the serial and papers? i saw PN for sale had no papers, so would the serial or paper give this info? thanks

The appraisal, in this current market and everything. It has to go way more than that. If it's NOS it's NOS and someone will pay (more than) double. Good luck finding another one.

And some people say watches aren't an investment. I'd love to hear this guy explain that to the IRS:I shouldn't have to pay any taxes because I read on TRF that watches aren't an investment.

Not at all my friend. The sticker would not fade unless it was worn or got moisture around it somehow. I’d say it was worn. In the watching selling world, particularly vintage, a precise description is very important. If you were to try and sell any watch like that and advertise it as “unworn condition” you’d be banned. Seeing how you have vintage Rolex watches I would have assumed you knew that. It’s really not that big a deal except that’s what the headline says. I’d say it’s mint. Nothing wrong with truth in advertising. A mint 6263 is a beautiful thing

You're taking the description "unworn" way too literally. This guy is far from a vintage watch dealer sensitive to the nuances of describing old timepieces. He probably wore the watch a little when he first got it, maybe put some sweat on it, probably tried to peel the sticker off at some point, and then tucked it away for the decades.

He didn't write the headline about it being "unworn," and he didn't describe it that way as part of a sales description.

Also, the sticker wear is really besides the point. Let's say he had taken the sticker off completely when it was brand new, like a lot of people did/do. We'd assume the watch was NOS, and the sticker would be a non-issue.

Appears NOS which is technically different than unworn, which is in the article headline as a descriptor.

Unworn means not worn. Ask Webster.:.

Wear on the sticker does not constitute wear on the watch. The watch can still be considered NOS condition if the sticker shows wear. Sticker is irrelevant IMO.
