Lange 1815

The consolidation of my collection continues and I’m looking at a Lange 1815 chronograph. I have a line on one in great condition from 2012. This is the white gold model with white dial and blue hands without the pulsations (402.026). Anyone have one and care to share comments and/or photos? Anyone put it on a blue calfskin strap?

Haven't seem that one in real. What I can say though is that they seem to hold value well compared to original Datograph which is strange at a first look since Datograph is the 'original', has applied indices and big date. But I just sold my Datograph since although I loved it I didn't love to wear it due to the hockey puck feeling on wrist. 1815 should be much more wearable and with same chronograph movement.

I have one in "honey" gold:

When I bought it, I considered the Dato, both the 39mm and 42mm versions. Both were, to me, far too thick and I much preferred the 1815. I adore this watch and think it was the most over-looked watch in the Lange catalog. The Dato got the fame, I believe, largely simply because it was first and ground breaking. In practice, however, it is far less enjoyable to wear over the 1815.

As far as a watch being a bad investment, you would be buying it pre-owned as it is long since discontinued, so that is moot.

Here it is on a blue alligator strap. I’m considering putting it on a brown suede strap after seeing a datograph with it. Makes it looks much more casual.

As for the watch, I love it. It works well with jeans and a t-shirt as well as a suit. Much more versatile than I anticipated.

That looks great. Aftermarket strap or OEM?

Are the straps 20mm at lugs and 16mm at buckle?

Didn’t know they made it in honey gold - are you sure that isn’t rose gold?

As far as chronographs go, you really can't do much better than the 1815. As previously mentioned, the Dato gets all the glory, but the 1815 has the same caliber movement sans-big date (which makes it much slimmer and wearable IMHO). Also, Lange make the best chronographs on the market today, and this movement is historic to the brand and the industry.

To play devil's advocate, also take a look Breguet 5247. Like you, I'm also considering a chrono purchase and the 5247, 1815 and CDV are on my short list. Not many people have heard of the 5247, but it presents great value and looks killer with the enamel dial.

I ordered one OEM croc strap and was quoted $370. Two casual calfskin ordered from Camille Fournet in brown and black. One more from Patek - the blue calf strap that’s on the 5172g. Excited to have options!

I feel many people see the 1815 chrono as their dream watch. I own a Daytona and often consider “upgrading” to one, completely different watches I know, but still

I much prefer the non-scale models, it has a larger presence. we have a few scale and non scale models in our inventory and I always find myself going to putting on the non scale 1815 chronographs.

We have similar tastes, I'm craving for a rg 1815 chrono and the Pt CDV is also on my short list. Thanks for that Breguet suggestion, I had never seen that one before.

Went into the ALS Boutique on Worth in palm beach and saw the 1815 chrono and fell in love. When the guy told me 50k , with a little wiggle room, I knew I was in over my head. My favorite watch of all time.

Glad I could help muddy the waters a bit regarding your next chrono. Haha.

I LOVE my 5524. The size and weight and casual wear of the brown leather all speak to me.
