Anyone ever seen the Morehouse College Glee Club perform?

My spouse talked me into going to see the Morehouse College Glee Club perform yesterday.

I will confess that I had never heard of the Glee Club. I will also confess that this is not my normal way to spend a Saturday, nor my normal genre (Willie singing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain is more my style). However, I am glad I went because the the experience was simply amazing.

The Morehouse Glee Club has been performing for over a hundred years. From the Whitehouse, to the Super Bowl, to the Olympics, with tours all over the world. Their music ranges from classical to contemporary.

The Glee Club normally performs in large venues. What made the experience even more special was that the event was held in a small-town church in Stanley NC (pop less than 4000). Sitting six rows back, you felt like you were standing right beside them.

The performance was flawless. The music awe inspiring. And these young men are some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen perform.

So, if you ever get the chance to see the Morehouse Glee Club, I highly recommend doing so!

And yes, I wore my Sub C.

I bet they were great.

The black community because I'm guessing due to singing in church, turns out a ton of great singers.

For a work project I once went to a Catholic Church in a not so great part of LA and it was incredible. As anyone familiar with Catholic Churches, its a pretty staid affair and most of the voices are older women who sound like a cat coming down a 20 foot blackboard claws-first.

The black Catholic Church was a rocking party and these people can SING. All 30-50 of them in the choir and the people attending. Like a bloody rock concert.

It's eye opening for a white boy from the prairies.

I'm sure your event was the same type of thing.

Blansky, haven't really thought of it from that perspective. But to my untutored ear, the music transcend any labels I can come up with.

And to make it more interesting, the concert was held a in predominately white southern baptist church, I suspect because it is of a more recent build with a major investment in acoustics. Attendance was extremely diverse. And to top it off, this sleepy little town passed a resolution giving the Glee Club the keys to the town and the mayor presented the same.

I'm sure if you look at the bio of almost every great black female singer of the last whatever years they all learned to sing in church. From Whitney, all the way back to the early 20th century.

In fact probably most of the black male singers as well.

This is the type of stuff, that if you ain't dead should move you.
