Really hoping to see more photos of this, especially the numbers between the lugs and the movement. Would clear up a lot of questions, which is part of why we are all here: we love researching and learning and seeing what’s out there.

He just wants additional clarification. Why are you getting your feathers so ruffled?

A little history. Pushers started showing up in 1965. |

Hey guys,
I had a request for photos of the reference number and serial number. Here are a few pictures! I also included a receipt from R.U.S.A. It confirms the reference number is 6238/7 ( 7 meaning 14k gold) and the serial being 1697086. |

Then you have a bit of a headache. Both dial and bezel is wrong for the reference.
It is still a nice watch but there are quite many questions to answer. :)

All very interesting. I wouldn’t be taking that to RSC for service. Find yourself a reputable vintage Rolex watch dealer and let them take a look at it before you let anyone touch it.

That case number is very late for a 6238.

Late or not, the watch looks right to me, fwiw. What does not look right is the receipt you posted. That looks modern.

Yes, there are quirks out there, examples of vintage Rolexes that raise eyebrows and/or don't fit into established information on the reference. However, I'd want to see at least a couple of other examples of a 6238 that looks like this. |

Well I would not venture to authoritatively say the watch is OK, but would offer a couple observations:
1) A tiffany marked piece would have been specified by them and might vary from non-tiffany norms. 2) If it were a fake or sporting a non-original dial, RSC would not work on it. |

PS: Found a similar 6263, non-tiffany, but same color scheme on the Forbes website in an article about the Bao Dai:
And this 6264 looks to be closer, not Tiffany though: |

You might want to take it up to Cambria and let them have a look at it.

Family Mystery- Tiffany and Co. Daytona
Yes, a nice result for the family and glad to see the quest to sell it started here on TRF.
https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auct...ytona-retailed So many times we see bogus threads about “my ____________’s old watch” that are just scammers. Very happy this was real and it turned out well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Interesting. I think the questions remain on this watch, and just because Sothebys sold it doesn't make those questions go away. Not saying it's not 100 percent legit, but at a minimum, it seems a bit of an oddball, based on available information out there on vintage Daytonas.
I wonder where the OP went. I guess money was more important than keeping grandpa's watch in the family. Not judging. I might have done the same. |

Apparantly they got better help from Sam Hines & friends.
Nice watch that performed well. Happy for both buyer and seller. Sothebys presented it in a good way.
