Star Wheel

Does anyone own a Star Wheel and any thoughts on it?

These seem pretty rare, one for auction right now on Christie's HK

I own a platinum version. It's a really beautiful and rare watch, although you have to remember that it's only 36mm wide, so if you have a big wrist, maybe it's not the best watch for you.

Here's a close-up of the dial: I think it's gorgeous.

This is cool. I was trying to figure out how it works. Does the minute track travel around the perimeter meeting up with the correct hour marker? Or perhaps the center track circles around? Brilliant looking watch.

I was asking myself the same question and found this video of a Millenary Star Wheel: https://youtu.be/I7DlUQ783fE

If you jump to ~ 3:40 he demonstrates how it works. Super cool indeed!

There is a very interesting article here: Click!

Quote:
The Star Wheel displays time via three sapphire disks with printed hours, which rotate on a center wheel, where usually the hour and minute hands are attached. The name of the watch is derived from the star wheels which connect the sapphire disks to this rotating center ring. The hours on the disks point to the minutes on a 120-degree sector, gliding over them over the course of an hour. The rotating ring turns 360 degrees, one full turn, in 3 hours. While not quite a jump-hour watch, a satisfying mechanical feature of the Star Wheel, is when the sapphire disks jump into position right before sliding over the minutes track.

WOW! Congratulations!

I was curious to see what's the market value of a watch like mine, but I couldn't find anything online.

In platinum the difference comes by the dial. There are at least 2 main version .
The guillauche one in blue and other variances ( the purple sold for over 35k) and the hand engraved on in PT.
There are very few ones of the last variation and that makes them the most valued among the series one.
The purple was a one of and there might also be a red one around.
