2020 Supra for... $200,000

OK, gotta admit the title was click bait... it's $198,563.

https://jalopnik.com/heres-a-2020-to...000-1836757761

Suddenly buying a SS Daytona for $20K seems entirely sensible.

To quote P.T. Barnum “There's a sucker born every minute.”
200k for a Toyota with an MSRP of 49k doesn't sound very smart IMO.

That’s a fairly negative way of seeing things. Say one of those “idiots” happen to make 100k USD a month which isn’t unreasonable for many of the members on here, which option do you think would make more sense to them?;

- wait 3 years for a new 12k watch
-buy it now for 30k and enjoy it

Different circumstances for different folks, doesn’t make them idiots

That being said, I agree with you in a sense that I wouldn’t spend 200k on a 49k MSRP car regardless of financial circumstance

I will say this nicely. The car is an epic failure. Worse than the revised nsx.

Ridiculous. Soon Toyota dealers will have stock and will be discounting them. Much like the 2007 FJ Cruiser.

Really? I kinda like it.
I get it from a purist POV that this is not a Supra, but from what I've seen of it from online reviews, it looks good to me.

Maybe in a few years when the hype has died down, nobody is buying them, and the dealers are automatically offering $5K off automatically, then I'd consider it.

It’s a very good car in a vacuum, but it doesn’t have the heart of what gave the Supra its cult-like following. There are a lot of compelling options at that price point, certainly more than a rebadged BMW.

That's a lot of money for a Z4. To each their own though. My interest in this was gone as soon as the first video reviews popped up.

The amount one makes in any given time should not imho dictate overvaluing anything. Just because something is a “drop in the bucket” in regards to social/fiscal status should not justify grossly overpaying for mass produced material items.

It happens daily I get it but will not change my perspective of that bunch being idiots. With that said I know many very happy idiots.

The new Supra depresses me. It should be competing with the GTR, Corvette, 911 Turbo.

Instead, it’s an econo box with a borrowed soul.

The NSX, similarly was a let down. It’s no wonder kids are aspiring to buy Teslas, the cars these days are lacking edge and soul.

I'd say the Dealer in question got what they were after - a lot of free publicity.
It won't sell at that price - not unless the Dealer Principal buys it himself.
Nice car for the price. I could see myself in one of those (although there is nowhere in Australia that I could use the performance without ending up in Gaol.)

The new Supra will be a massive failure due to being an overpriced collaboration not true to its roots.

They would sell to a $32-$36k market .................

I agree with the idiot comment, just because you can afford it that doesn’t necessarily exclude you from being an idiot

Each to their own but that is insane pricing however much money you have or earn.

What’s that saying about a fool and his money.....

You go into it knowing its a collaboration, and neither one or the other, lotus over here have been using toyota engines for years, they are good cars nowadays. In an ideal world, it would be all toyota, if a total supra, as of old, is what you are after, but this doesnt exist at this present time, so you take the bmw/toyota and hope its going to be a great car, with every chance it will be.

I really like it, i also like the fact its a 6 cylinder engine,

I like it over the gt86 which is a 4 cylinder engine by subaru.

Car manufacturers have been collaborating for years, it's nothing new.

its not worth almost 200k, 50k max.

In Australia that is close to how much we pay for cars anyway!!! At 200K it is still better value than a Nautilus these days

I’m a Toyota guy and have been running Toyota store for 14 years. It’s a flop. It’s a BMW. Toyota missed this one big time. It’s needed to be all Toyota and have a crazy fast twin turbo under the hood.

Pass. This is not a worthy successor to the Supra. I’d bet it hangs around for 3 or 4 years and it’s dropped due to slow sales.

Since the 2020 Supra has a BMW drivetrain, if a Supra is going down the road at a slow pace, is it the tow truck drivers fault ?

it's not supposed to sell at $200k, it's just brilliant marketing by this dealer, and the car wasn't made for traditional supra fans (whatever that is) regardless of what toyota's presser says.

No, it's a very realistic way of looking at it, there idiots, plenty of them with money ........

as for the 'rice burner'(German variant), paying almost 200k for that puts one into 'moron status' !

That’s as bad as paying $10+K for a Sub no date.
