My friends don’t really care.

I used to be into cars, I have friends that have put maybe $8kish into their engine bay...

I sold my cool car and bought a cool watch, but deal

I have a friend that collects weapons, and guitars

Same thing

They’re into different things

Everything costs money

To me I feel a bit odd wearing it like I’m doing too much?

Agreed. I would add that if they're into watches, they'd probably be wearing something similar.

Sometimes I feel a bit ridiculous when wearing full gold around friends and acquaintances with apple watches or no watches that I know are worth multiples of 10 times more than me..

I usually get together with friends to celebrate what we have in common, not what we don’t.

If you're feeling insecure, get an apple watch.

No, but my pieces are more under the radar compare to the new 6 digit references with the maxi case which are intended and created to get more attention. My speedy and 16610 are brushed and small enough to fit under a shirt sleeve. So no one really notices. My 116520 I only wear on vacation and even then it’s shiny, but does not stand out as belt buckles, pens, etc are similar in color and the monochromatic look actually goes pretty unnoticed as well.

Reality is we care about watches and assume others care or notice, 99% of the time they don’t.

My friends know I love watches. They don’t. I never bring up the subject of watches but they sometimes do as they’re interested with my passion (or rather can’t fathom the amount I spend on them). Everyone spends their money on something so it’s all good :)

Your watch and your friends

If they’re actually friends I have a thought time imagining they care.

Do you care what they do with their money?

Same. My closest friends know I am a watch guy and pay little attention to what I am wearing. A few of them will occasionally mention something they read about a watch or when out and about together will comment, "Hey, did you see the watch that guy had on? What was that?" They know I love these things and find ways to work stuff like that into the conversation.

What is often more of "a thing" is my equal obsession for fountain pens. Most friends find that to be rather odd.

My friends could care less about my watch. A couple of them wear an Apple Watch. The others look at their phones for the time.

My friends don't care and most likely don't even notice what watch I'm wearing.

The irony in this thread is comical.

The OP, imho, rightfully has worries that people might judge him based on his watch.

And half the people disparaging him for his concern are judging him because of it.

Don’t care if they are your oldest friend for life. If someone has different choices and different interests based on their own priorities, it’s a correct assumption that you will be judged.

So unless you are hanging out with people that are similar in nearly every way, there is at least a reasonable concern that you might be judged. This is not to say they are judging you in a poor light. Maybe yes. Maybe no. But judging nevertheless.

That’s fact, based on human nature. To deny this is simply denying nature.
