This is correct. I am the rep that he talked with. We are also discontinuing the Dd40 and the SkyDweller. I have also heard from my boss that the world is flat and I would openly encourage everyone to beleive what they read on the internet. Now quickly go buy all the SD4s. RUN!!!!!

Considering that 2017 is the 50th anniversary for the seadweller i find it very hard to believe they would discontinue it. Rpr has written that the dssd will be discontinued which makes more sense.

Do you think it will somehow increase your "investment"? If that's the reason I hope that you have a significantly more diversified portfolio.

Do you simply want to deny others the same opportunity? If that's the reason it's hardly in keeping with the overall spirit the watch aficionados that frequent these forums.

Lastly, is the watch that you love insured? If so, how would you plan on replacing it if it were ever lost or stolen? Presumably you'd accept a used watch as a substitute, because with its discontinuation that's all that would ultimately be available to you.

I personally hate to see a model discontinued, for all of the above reasons, but somehow I often read posts like yours where some seem to relish the prospect of a watch discontinued. I'm just trying to figure out why?

To answer your question...

1. My SD4k is not an investment. I wear it for my enjoyment.

2. My Rolex is not part of any portfolio...and I'm not sure why my portfolio would be any of your concern.

3. If somebody wants to enjoy the SD4k they should buy one. Kind of like the Pepsi being discontinued. It makes them collectible in the future. And yes I do like having something that not everyone has.

** 100% confirmed Basel info & discontinued models info

Dec 16th i was at a very big AD that i have a good relatioship with.

There they told me they have been instructed by Big Brother Crown to push SD4K.

That might be linked with what is being said here.

But hey.. no AD knows anything right? ;)

Personally i think SD4k kind of overlaped with SubC
(Kind of)

And Deepsea brings something a lil different to the table.

So the info makes sense.

(To me)

Just saying

I'm sceptical. I'm not sure rubber straps are that popular. People want the Oyster bracelet when they buy a Rolex. If it became an option for other models wouldn't Everose Yachty owners wonder where their option was? Also, discontinue the original Sea Dweller? Hmmm. Free dial changes.

I am not taking the OPs side, but only stating that it is not uncommon that Basel watches have been leaked, in the recent past, months prior to the show. For instance, last January, the Rolex Passion Report wrote an article that included virtually every new watch that was released a few months later.

No interest whatsoever in your, or anyone else's, portfolio.
Just trying to determine why a member would take such delight when a model is supposedly discontinued.

Ok, thanks.

Edit: after re-reading my initial post I can see that it might have come across more heated then intended. Wasn't meant confrontational but can certainly see how it might appear that way. Thanks for pointing that out, and apologies to the OP or anyone else who took offense.

According to a very reliable source, Techniques d'Avant Garde will finally divest Heuer in order to acquire Rolex. The new brand will be TAG Rolex (pronounced row-LAY). New models will include the Submariner Link, and the Grand Datejust. Tiger Woods will remain ambassador, but won't know on which brand he's cheating until it chases after him with a golf club.

Sorry, didn't mean "you", I was actually referring back to the guy that prefers to have a watch that becomes discontinued from production. As he
went on to explain, to him there is some added value in owning a watch that not everyone will have the same access to once discontinued.

I understand with his philosophy, but I don't subscribe. But then I'm not really a collector- I just enjoy watches and want everyone to be able to as well. If there's a watch I really like, the last thing I'd want is to see it discontinued. My enjoyment isn't predicated on any additional exclusivity beyond the price of admission.
