15400 Obsession Update: Now... which color - Go!

So I start this thread thread not long ago, about the possibility of of an IWC as a hold over for my super lusted after and coveted Royal Oak 15400.
http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=429249

Since, especially with the great advice of all of you, I've decided to save for the 15400, as it is no secret, that is really and clearly the watch I really want.

So I'm still a little ways away from the actual purchase, but the obsession is growing rapidly!

Next question, what color is the best way to go. I am instinctively leaning towards a black dial, but the white dial is also amazing. I was also recently introduced the idea of going with the harder to find and more expensive boutique blue dial.

What is your favorite color dial 15400, and why? Anything a first timer should consider before committing to the color?

Thank you all so much!

You won't consider this watch if it were pre-owned? Why?

Pretty much the only way I'm going to afford any of these watches is to go trusted seller route.

I think what he's referring to is that the only way to get a new one is from the boutique.

I'm biased heavily towards the silver dial because I find it easy to find a nice black dial in pretty much any watch style but harder to find a white/silver dial that I actually like. Tough to go wrong either way. It's like choosing which child you love more...

Black dial gets my vote - regardless of price.

The white/silver probably shows the details of the tapestrie dial better than the others do; however, it just makes the overall watch a little too monochromatic for my taste.

The blue one is interesting, but I didn't really want a blue dialed watch as a daily wearer. I personally prefer a black or white dial as one I will see every day. The colored dials are fun for an occasional watch/nights and weekends one. Also, I just didn't see the value in the extra cost. Since it sounds like you are looking to go Trusted Seller used, you are looking at almost a $4k premium for that dial. I see used black and silver ones go for around $11-11.8k, and the blue ones used for around $15-15.3k.

Even if costs were the same, the black would have been my choice. Black dial is great for daily wear, the WG hour markers really shine against the contrasting black dial, and you still get a lot of color variations with this dial - again, especially in the sun with the WG markers.

You can see some of my pics in this thread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=431687

The forum will vote heavily for the blue, but you have go with what works for you.

I chose the white/silver dial for the reason I have too many watches with black dial including the Sub and IWC 5001.

I really do like the silver dial, gives a different color/shade depending on the light and angle. My only negative observation is I notice (I have had the watch for 3+ weeks now) is at times I find the white/silver dial blends or gets lost with the rest of the watch (bracelet and case) and realize from other poster's point of view why they prefer the black on the 15400 as it stands out more which I can see. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the silver/white dial.

Also to note, I wonder if flat white on the 15300 stands out more than the silver/white dial on 15400? I have not seen one in person but there have been debates which dial is better.

You can't go wrong with either :)

What's a reasonable discount from an AD? I'm also deciding between the colors for the 15400.

I'd go blue
It's a really nice shade of blue, and I think it's as versatile as a black dial watch while being a bit more unique

Tough call, but if I will to buy back the 15400 again, I will probably still opt for the white / silvery dial. Just looks amazing under sunlight.

To me it depends on the colors of your other watches as well. When I knew my dark blue/charcoal ROC was a keeper and wanted a VC Overseas, I went with the silver dial for that one. So while you can't really go wrong with any of them, I lean towards diversifying your collection with a color you don't have
