5712a or 5980r on strap
guys, AD offered 1 allocation to me this year in which I can pick up either a 5712a or 5980R. I currently has the 5711 blue, 5524 and 5146g. What do you think? Afraid the 5980 might be discontinued soon but seemed like it survive this year. Thanks!

12 in isolation. Like the idea of both and move the 11?

5980 would round out your collection nicely but 5712 is a very hot watch right now. I would pick 5712.

I have both. Totally different watches, but if i had to choose one, it would be the 5712.

looks like the only reason you hear suggestions about 5712 is the "flip" value. I guess you are not a flipper. The 5980 is in a Completely different league.
Suggesting you to buy 5712 over 5980 is like suggesting some one who is in the market for a Ferrari 812 superfast, to buy a Porsche GT3 because it's "hot" right now, caliber wise. About the 5980 being on strap it's a matter of preference. Advise- Get what you like! |

12 or the 5980/1r. not fan of the strap 5980 (both the fact its on strap and the dial)

If possible get the 5980/1R. Both 5980R and 5980/1R may get discontinued next year.

Just thinking of the watch , I prefer 12. For your collection, seems that you need some color on it, 5980R would do the trick. I have to say that for me historically every time I choose based on the collection over the watch, never works , might be different for you.

5712. I had the 5980R and it was not comfortable on the strap. Felt top heavy especially on my small wrist. Now I really like the 5980/1r with the darker dial and RG bracelet.

Thanks everyone. Seemed like I need to try to find the 5980r on strap to see if I actually like the 'top heavy' feeling. Not sure if I can carry the full 5980 1R on a regular basis. Too bad I missed the 59801A before it got too crazy...
Tried on the 5712R yesterday, very nice indeed. Tempting on the 5712 piece or even the RG. Will see what Basel brings us first :) |

Went with the 5712a and also on the list for 5968. Meanwhile given the msrp saving over 5980r I am thinking of trading my 5146g toward 5159g or 5170r. Both at similar price, which one would you go with?
Ultimately I hope to get the 5740 which I was told u likely to come this year either |

If the 5980 was not on a strap it would be a diff debate for me. I LOVE the 5712. The asymmetrical dial is just awesome and unique p. It is also as comfortable to wear as your 5711. I also love a Nautilus on a bracelet. The 5980 on a strap is great but I feel like it should be on a bracelet. Also the price difference is massive if that makes diff to you.

Just as I completely forgot about the watch wait, got the famous ‘got something for you msg’ from an AD I have only referred business to before....
We were chatting a while ago and he asked me what am I waiting for and I told him about the 5980r. Last night he msg me and ask if I am still waiting, if so come over.... just wow! Super excited to pick it up over lunch soon. Now I need to explain to wife about my watch collection. I went to a long length discussion when I got the 5170g and how 3 watch rotation is perfect. That doesn’t help this 4th piece .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

On an absolute basis I would take the 12. It’s an amazing piece and may be my fav PP. I am not a huge fan of the 5980. Had the steel version and it was pretty uncomfortable.

Agreed the 5712 is super nice too even though it is a bit close to my 5711. Am very happy with the weight and overall feel of the watch! The full gold version must be a beast!

I'd def pick that up and if you have to sell the 11 to keep the missus happy then I'd do that now you have the 12. I love my 5711r but I do think this looks just as good and if I didn't have an AP RG Chrono I might be tempted.

This is like choosing between a VS model and a SI model. I will take the one you passed.
