for me sourcing all parts of 1675 in a good condition would cost much more than 7/8k...

Im fixing up my step dads old 5513 from 1965. I have the majority of the original watch so Im lucky in that sense. However, it is still a lot of back and forth to get it restored, so Im not sure I would start from scratch

that made sense what you did, but from scratch it's totally different imo...

When do you get updates about yours ?

No idea sadly, a watch maker has it and I dont want to rush him. The last I heard he had ordered a parts kit from Switzerland. I will update when I have something more substantial from him.

Good luck with your project!

Ah projects, I have a few. Will I ever finish them? I'm seriously considering dumping all these parts in a bag and sending it to some innocent watchmaker to sort out.

And the most sinful of all; putting an aftermarket GMT bezel on my Polar 16570.

Don't know if it's sinful. It's OK if you like it and you're not trying to sell it as authentic. After all, we put aftermarket straps on our watches all the time.

Hands up if you've never done anything you knew wasn't quite right.

I really like that look. My old 16550 never gets any wrist time nowadays, maybe I should change it up!

No I paid $5000 for it.

Yes it is. I have the correct “mk4” insert for it, I wanted a ghost insert but won’t be dropping the money on one.

Sorry I’m confused.
You paid $5000 for what exactly?
The aftermarket ghost insert?

You asked if it was aftermarket knowing it was, so I joked back Saying it wasn’t and I paid $5000 for it.

They are inexpensive.

It was a semi rhetorical question.
Most importantly I wanted to make sure you didn’t purchase it thinking it was the real deal.

I knew that’s what you meant. I was just jacking around.

I have been seeing some dicey looking parts pop up, I hope everyone vets/looks at each part before buying. Especially dials on EBay/Chrono24.

Awesome! Too bad Rolex never thought of that.

I think it would be quite interesting and fun to do a project like this.
