My first rolex, a 1601 form 69'

Ive had the watch for a year now and I've really enjoyed it but now that I've acquired a NOS OP date, I've been wondering if the lugs on the 1601 are over polished. What do you guys think? are they fine as is given the age or could they use some laser welding?

Cool pieces! Don’t spend time on laser welding on a 1601, let it be what it is...use a satin brush pad and brush down the polish-ness if it bothers you...if you think the case is over polished and it bothers you-flip it and get yourself another 1601...frank words from L.K : )

I was just wondering if it’s heavily over polished, wasn’t sure if the cases back in the 60’s were simply made a little thinner than the ones made in the 90’s. I probably won’t sell it as it’ll be to difficult to find another 1601 with a full kit.

Yes, it’s been polished pretty hard, but it’s not worth fixing IMO. I would just wear the heck out of it and enjoy. If you google a 1601 you will see examples of a much thicker case. It’s a 1601, not a 6542. I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter but the cost likely wasn’t exorbitant. I would wear it as is and enjoy. Worry about looking a little close at the polish jobs on the next one.

It a 52 year old vintage watch! Just enjoy it and wear it as others have said. However, you may want to try putting it on a thinner and tapered strap (20x16). Your leather strap is much too thick and bulky for your 1601 and, as a result, it accentuates the thinness of the lugs.

Good to know! I’ve actually ordered a customs alligator strap with this measurements! I’ve even got a Rolex buckle to go with it.

I would leave it the heck alone.

You would spend a lot of bucks on it for laser welding and really get nothing of value in return.

Seems a bit overly polished. But just keep wearing it, you'll eventually accept it for what it is.
