Please help with 1500 Date dial
Hi all,
I had been after a 1500 date from my year of birth, and pulled the trigger online a few months back. However I was overseas at the time and by the time i got back to the UK, the shop was closed. Hence, only just collected it. Now, I know I should have done better (some!) research before hand, but I clearly missed a trick. When looking at the watch, something seems off with the print on the dial. Specifically, the word Rolex looks like it is too spaced out. I have compared to other 1500 photos online, and generally, on those, the X of Rolex tends to line up with the T of perpetual. However on mine, it over hangs the T and lines up with the U. The dealer appear reputable (carter marsh) and had a lovely store. They told me the dial was original. But given the spacing, now I am not so sure, hence this plea for advice. From your experience, does this dial look like an original? If not original to the watch, is it at least authentic Rolex, or have I been duped and had my fingers burned? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ZD82 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I have wanted to find a this watch for a while, and pulled the trigger (over the phone) without seeing it. I must say, I was a little worried by the way ROLEX is spaced on the dial. Any idea why this may be spaced differently to other 1500 dates? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Almost looks like it could be a service dial, which is not a bad thing. Nice crisp looking watch.

You would be insane to pass on a watch that nice over a dial. I know you noobs think it's like slapping your momma to think about owning an 'unoriginal' watch but when that watch was new changing dials was like changing socks. Tired of black? for 50 bucks get white.
A nice 1500 dial is around 150 dollars, get one if you want. Relax and enjoy the watch. |

They made the 1500 reference for almost 25 years I believe. Tiny variations like that wouldn't make me think "fake." Although based on how the lume dots are whiter than the hands I do think "service dial" is a reasonable guess. Regardless, looks nice!

Looks like a later service dial to me as well. Certainly not fake, just service parts and very common. During the service they most likely also put new hands and a new crown. Nothing to worry about. Its a nice piece OP! Wear it in good health.

Thank you all who pitched in. As I said, I didn’t pass and the watch is with me. I just had a slight issue with the spacing of Rolex. It was everything I was looking for, black, date, 1982, decent condition. So happy with it!

Thanks Richard. I didn’t pass and collected it last week. Was just a bit hasty I suppose with not researching first! The seller was great though, a well established watchmaker/seller in Winchester, but I am very happy with the piece. And extremely grateful to all on here who have pitched in with advice. Please remove that bacteria-collector sticker from the rear cover before you get a flesh-eating disease from the crud trapped in the adhesive edge.
