Search function doesn't work....

I have a question....when I use the search function for some reason it doesn't work properly. For instance, if I type in "116718" in the Classifieds forum there are only 2 results since Sept. 2020. I know that is not correct.

Another example, if I do a search for "16622" also in the classifieds the first result is from Nov. 2013.

It is the same for many common search terms. I have noticed this for the last 6 months or so the function isn't working like it should.

Anyone else have any of the same issues?

It never worked for me. When I look for something here I type "rolexforums xxxxx" (what I want to know) on Google.

Agreed, but to be fair i haven’t seen a forum yet with a robust search function. If it’s hosted with a big provider (aws) there are products that can absolutely make the search function incredible. But at the end of the day, it’s a no cost forum, and features like that have a cost. I’m pleasantly surprised how well everything else works. This is a very well put together forum.

it's been messed up for a while, you have to go to advanced search and select a time frame under "Find posts from"

This ^^. Seems ever since whatever happened to the forums a couple months back the search has been buggered. If you do the above - advanced search and force the date it will search properly.

There are a couple threads on this in the last month. What I learned from them was A) the mods are aware B) if I use the advanced search feature and set a time frame to search, the results are what I'd expect.

I have just checked it out.

I typed in ‘Rolex 116718 GMT’.
Selected ‘titles only’.
Unticked ‘Search all open forums’.
Ticked ‘Rolex watches for sale’.

Worked ok for me......twice.

What are you doing??

I have had this exact same issue since the big Forum problem several months ago.

I am doing the same as I used to do: e.g., If I search the For Sale: ROLEX (brand) watches Forum for "16570" the first hit is from 11 March 2015. If I search for 16520, the first hit is from 17 March 2017. That can't be right.

Let me try.

I searched:

‘Rolex Daytona 16520’
Selected ‘Titles only’.
Unticked ‘search all open forums’.
Ticked ‘Rolex watches for sale’.

These were the first of many that came up.

I can't reproduce that result. When I go to the Classifieds to the "For Sale: ROLEX (brand) watches" page, on the "Sub-Forums : For Sale: ROLEX (brand) watches" line to the "Search this Forum" tab, leave on "Show Threads" & search "Rolex Daytona 16520"- which is what I used to be able to do- without using the "Advanced Search",

these are the 1st hits I get:

I think OP & I have the same issue.

I just tried the same search and also got the same results. I then tried the suggestion I mentioned in my above post - select a specific time frame to search (I chose two weeks) and the search worked as it should.

Why not just highlight the thread only box and add your item to the advanced search box?

Why show me a method that doesn’t work when I have shown you a method that does?

Just so you could see what I was talking about. I appreciate & will definitely use the method that works now. I just never had to do that before & this seems like a work-around for something that used to work for me.

Thanks.

The search is definitely messed up. The search index needs to be rebuilt/reindexed and that should hopefully fix it.

Ever since the site crashed and they had to restore a backup in early February (I think), certain Search functionality hasn't worked properly.
