Wear whatever you like. In general it is a more an understated size
If anything people are often wearing watches that are too big for them then the other way around

Exactly. With a few extreme exceptions masculinity or femininity of a watch isn’t really determined by size. A gem-covered Daytona looks far more feminine to me than a black dial OP 34.

Today, though, as more women are discovering and appreciating watches as something other than time-telling jewelry, there are far more truly unisex pieces out there. Rolex 34 and 36mm watches are great examples, as are all of the GP Laureato 38s and IWC Pilot 36.

I have the blue 3-6-9 dial OP36 from the 11 series. My wife has the brand new blue dial 12 series OP34. They are significantly different in size. No comparison and the size difference visually looks like you are comparing a 31 to a 36. The contrast is that large. The old 36mm wore larger and the new 34mm wears smaller. You will be very disappointed if you are trying to base decisions on different generations of these watches. You have to compare brand new generation to brand new, or old to old. From what I have read here, and from what I am seeing in my own house, the case sizes do not wear the same anymore.

Agree. This comparing my Explorer 36 to my wife’s 11 generation OP 34. Not sure whether dial size has changed across generations but the fatter lugs of the 11 series make a huge difference.

34 mm is a wonderful size, particularly if you want to do sports with your watch. It will be light and tough, and definitely not too small.

I would say anything under 40mm is too small

34 is a little bit small. It depends on the size of your wrist and your personal eye IMO

If you are getting the current OP then I would go with 36, mainly because of a better caliber inside.

2232 55hrs vs 3230 with 70hrs power reserve.

That's definitely a legitimate reason to go with the 36, no doubt. For me it comes down to two counterpoints:

1. I dislike the double batons at 3-6-9. Like, I realllllly dislike them.

2. Wearing the 124270 has actually made me appreciate narrower bracelets, and I don't know that I'd actually like a 20mm on a 36mm watch anymore. I feel like the 18mm on a 34 might be better (since, like the Explorer but unlike the OP36, this one narrowed from its previous iteration).

unless you are very skinny, 36mm is probably the smallest

I have 6.6" wrist, I wouldn't go anything less than 36mm unless is vintage.

When purchase a luxury timepieces, don't go for the price, go for whatever you like the most.

Someone mentioned stature rather than just wrist size - I agree that this is a consideration along with wrist size. Then again, I look at vintage pieces throughout history worn by men and women of different sizes - a lot of examples online of 34mm watches looking incredible. Then really then all it comes down to is preference.

Having said that, I tried on a 34 Date model recently and it seemed really small - maybe it would just take some getting used to..

I have a 6.5- 6.75 inch wrist. I am 5'9" and weigh 200 lbs. My vintage (1983) 15003 looks great and not too small.

My daily these days is a 34 mm OP with a pure white dial; it’s basically an Air King without the ´Air King’ text on the dial.
Its smaller size gives it a vintage feel, and being a modern reference I know it’s rugged, built to last and super accurate.
The newer case makes it wear like a previous generation 36mm Explorer or a vintage Datejust.
Honestly, I think it’s perfectly fine for any slim guy who doesn’t give too much credit for what others have to say on a Rolex forum. The problem is that the world is slowly running out of slim guys…
On the other hand, with all the wrist shots we’re seeing here with oversized watches and undersized wrists (both are just fine, they just don’t mix well), many here would without a doubt benefit from wearing smaller watches.

I'm 6'4" with a 7 1/8" wrist. This is my brother's 34mm 1956 OP. It of course doesn't look huge, but I certainly don't think I'll get stopped in the street and asked why I'm wearing a girl's watch. God knows Hemingway didn't when he wore the same ref.

Based on statement 1, I think statement 2 would be true even if you chose the 31mm floral dial DJ as your daily wear watch

Not quite. Don’t think too many guys will go for the 34mm pieces truly intended for ladies. Doing too many will pick up the new OP34 with the rose dial. Rather they’re simply returning to pieces that were historically “men’s” but have become truly gender-agnostic.

I think these sizes all have their place in a man’s collection. I wear a vintage Cartier tank that was traditionally marketed as a men’s watch to a modern 41 mm Sub and I enjoy them all. Variety in sizes is part of the fun of collecting.

Watch size is like age...it's only a number. Depends on many factors. Wrist size is a big factor.

I have a smaller wrist and I won't go 34mm. 36mm is smallest I wear and 40mm is largest.
