Rolex Explorer 1016 Bought Today

Hello All,

I have found it takes a long time to find the right watch at the right price.

Having searched for well over a year I have found 1980, one previous owner, 1016, unpolished, original bracelet, authenticated by a UK AD dealer complete with box and papers. The AD tells me the hands and dial look original and untouched.

Can't buy another watch for a while or home management might get the hump!.

Kind regards

It’s nice to read about hard work and persistence paying off.

Congrats, enjoy your new baby.

I wouldn’t rely on any AD for vintage advice.

Dial and hands definitely nice! Original minute and second hands are longer in length reaching about half way into markers. Mine also from early 80s say hi.

1960’s 1016 dial refinished? Why?

Hello guys, I was wondering if any of you guys have any experience with 1960’s 1016 dials. I have been told my dial may be refinished but when I look at it with a loupe it looks like the tritium is just peeling off from the font giving it a sloppy look which I am assuming why people are telling me it is refinished.... if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated, I would like to know why people are saying it is refinished Thanks for your time!

You’ll need to take some pics in much better lighting. When I zoom in, the fonts are grainy as. At the very least it looks relumed but a better clear pic of the dial text will confirm whether it is reprinted.
