The main differences can be classified into two things:

1. The movement upgrade from the 3135 to the 3235.
2. The concealed bracelet attachment system, which actually changes the endlinks into a whole jubilee bracelet as opposed to being able to see the endlinks.

Hope this helps! 👍🏻

The DJ36 got the same treatment that the DJ41 got, just in the smaller size. In addition to the items mentioned above, the dial has been slightly reworked, note the different chapter ring (which I like). The case may have been slightly refined, can't quite tell yet. And the clasp has the EZlink adjustment. I like it, others want the concealed clasp.

The DJ36 is now the baby brother of the DJ41.

It's the exact same as the TT which launched last year. Everything is redesigned. Much more elegant in it's execution. I think it's Rolex best looking model. Doomed bezel actually looks good here. It further convinces me that the 41 is bloated and needs more refinement.

Thanks a lot, very helpful.
I do agree, the DJ 36 mm is an evergreen and the perfect watch IMO.

Old 36mm.

I tried on both the new and old model TT just before christmas. Really liked the hidden clasp on the old model and wish they kept it, but the new design is light years ahead otherwise. It's looks bigger, doesn't have that weird bulbousness and just looks modern. I said here before, but my obsession with the 36 began when I walked into buy a DJ41... and I tried it on. IMO It's just too big for the style. The Ep2 looks fine and I've a 7.5 inch wrist.

Differences between old DJ36 and new DJ36.

Refined case
Slimmed down lugs
Re-worked bezel
Dial re-design
Movement upgrade

As previously mentioned, the 36mm has been given the same treatment that the 41mm has been given.

It just means the 36mm is a little leaner/slender than the previous 36mm.

I have seen a good number of 12 Datejusts now in cases, not a single roulette date. I think it is gone.

One of the reasons why I was very keen on grabbing an 116234 with jubilee. I love the roulette date wheel - and the hidden clasp on the super jubilee, of course (another reason for choosing 116234)

The railroad track around the dial is another reason for me, I think it's much nicer than the new dj36 dial.

No roulette dial,
No chapter ring with mini Roman Numerals
No hidden clasp

I’m glad I got my 2 Datejusts before the upgrade. I do like the new one, but I am glad the to have some old ones.

The new 36 dj's do not have roulette date wheel

Don't have the chapter ring/railroad track w/ roman numerals

I happen to like both of those features

The older 36 dj on oyster had easy-link, the jubilee did not. The new version jubilee has easy link and no hidden clasp - the clasp is now same as on the oyster

While I like the new slimmer lugs, I prefer the older "maxi case" because at 36 it's not like it feels or looks bloated on the wrist. Many have said it wears more like a 38

I have a 14270 Explorer and the older 36 dj DOES wear/look bigger (case/lugs), but I like it. It still wears good on my 7" wrist

If you're a fan of the railroad track dial and roulette wheel, the older dj is the one to get

The new dj has more of an Explorer dial with larger lume sticks and larger hands as well

The older dj, with the railroad track/roman numerals, is closer in spirit to the day date which has same railroad track/roman numerals

Also, older dj has 3135 movement which is same as the sub date - proven movement, been around a long time, built like a tank, can take a beating

I'm sure new 3235 movement is great, but it IS new and doesn't have proven track record that 3135 has

Keep in mind the sub date still has the 3135, so Rolex still stands by that movement

I can confirm the black dial 126234 does have the sunray effect. I’m really curious to know about the blue dial...

Not all 116234s had roulette wheel though, right?

Less dial colors available on the new. I wanted the white index dial and hidden clasp so had to look around for a 116234 still in stock a couple of months ago. Blue and Black index on the new but no white index. And new is $100 more.

Also and this is not yet known, but the old movement served Rolex and its customers well for decades. The new movement was lightened to get the longer reserve. Is that better? Nobody really knows and won't for a long time from now.

36 vs 41

The new 36mm looks more like the older five digit models which is definitely a good thing! I agree the 41 could do with a little more work, the thing that really turned me off was how massive the bevelled bezel was in the flesh!

The railroad track dial of the DJ36 has almost become a signature of that model. Now that it's gone, looks more like an OP dial.

That’s true actually. I thought I’d like the new dials as I wasn’t sure the railroad was my favourite.

Now the new ones don’t have it. I realise that the old dials were the best as they were.

Fortunately, for anyone still wanting an older DJ36, they are still out there at AD’s.
