Get the one you want, but there is a reason the DJ2 is 2 grand less than the DJ41. While used DJ41's are selling near or at MSRP.

Both watch has many of the same features, exact look but big difference is the calibre between these two watches.

I am leaning more toward on Datejust 41 but the price on Datejust 2 is is too tempting, $7300 close to new.

Your thoughts?
I would go for the DJ41. If it has baton markers, I always felt that they were out of proportion - too big - on the DJ2. And, the DJ41 has the latest movement as well. Unless you are absolutely sure you will not flip the DJ2, and you really prefer it, then go for it. But you may lose out if you try and flip it again. Always best to go with the model you prefer IMO.

Cheers,
Carl

If it's to wear daily I personally wouldn't care about the movements. I've owned both and they're both within +1.5 per day.

Just the facts......the Datejust II is bigger and more chunky. The baton markers on the Datejust II are bigger. The white gold bezel on the Datejust II is bigger. I believe the difference in weight is about 10g.

I had a smooth Datejust II and when I got it I loved it but it bored me over time. I then purchased The 41 with fluted and jubilee....much more comfortable for me and was more interesting to me than the smooth Datejust II. They are both beautiful but they wear completely differently.

I know it's sacrilegious but since I generally don't like SS watches I bit the dust and got rid of both and am now wearing the 116713LN GMT Master II.....but if between the two the 41 is a more refined and comfortable piece.

My .02.

Good luck!!

As for accuracy mine is less than +1 second a day and the power reserve is more than adequate.

Agree and great picture. I know a lot of people comment that the batons on the DJII are too thick but I think just the opposite. The beefy markers and more robust case are exactly why I prefer the II to the 41. Who thing presents a more sporty and youthful vibe!

How old are you and how big are your wrist. I was in the same dilemma. Bought the hype and got the DJ41 but it wore so small. It’s very close to the DJ36. It’s 39.5mm and it’s very light. Way towards the dressier side of things. I wore it for 6 months. Never bonded with it. Then I saw and tried on the old DJll and it fits way larger. It’s heavier in a good way imo and the larger gold bezel just sang to me. You have to try both of them on imo. I thought they were both the same size and it cost me thousands. The DJll for a larger wrist is perfect imo. I think the DJ41 would be a better watch in rotation.
This is a DJ36 next to my DJ41.

This is how my DJ41 fit. A little small imo.
This is my old DJ41 vs my DJll

This is a pic of my DJll vs my DJ36. Now see how much larger it is? It’s a true 41mm and wears larger imo. So please find a way to try them on. Before I was all about the DJ41 and it’s a great watch. But for me the DJll is better. And I get more complements on it then any watch I have ever owned combined. The DJll rhodium diamond dial looks more then what it is. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I bought the Blue Dial Fluted DJ2 when I learnt Rolex were phasing it out for its replacement the DJ41. I just preferred the sportier look of the DJ2. For lack of a better description the DJ2 really reminds me of a modern day Wideboy, whereas the DJ41 is really a proportionally upscaled DJ36.
You can’t go wrong with either, they’re both fabulous references, but good luck trying to get hold of a blue dial DJ2 now. They’re obviously discontinued and I don’t see the blue dial variants coming up for sale very often as it seems owners like me aren’t parting with them.

DJ 41 is with the more refined esthetics and upgraded movement with the choice of jubelee bracelet which is emblematic for the watch since 1945.
DJ || has more wrist presents and with now discontinued movement could well proof to be more valuable in the future.
Go with what sits better on your wrist..

I tried the Datejust 41at the AD. The 41 felt slim and small but comfortable. The 41 is a gorgeous watch especially the fluted Bezel. I would like to try the Datejust 2 to compare to the Datejust 41 but many AD do not carry the Datejust 2 in store..

Nah, not trying to flip the watch after purchase. Leaning towards the DJ 41. Looking for an AD in NYC to see if they carry the DJ 2 to try on. I prefer bigger watches.

All, was your purchase of DJ purchased online or at an AD?? Im leaning towards online purchase of NEW DJ 41 given no tax and better pricing compared to an AD.

Your thoughts?

Had the same dilemma about a year ago and went with the neeer movement and jubilee option! Never regretted it. Much more versatile and can work as a dress up or dress down watch
The fat indices make the II harder as a dress watch

Was looking at the DJ2 since Rolex launched them in 2009 but never pull the trigger even til rolex discontinue them in 2016.
Finally got the DJ41 last Dec.
the DJ41 was a more refined model comparing to DJ2, with better proportion and new 3235.

Datejust 2 or Datejust 41 in Blue dial

I think it just depends on how you want it to wear. I think the “proportions are better” argument is subjective. Yes the DJ41 proportions are better for a more elegant and lighter feel but the D4II proportions are better if you are wanting it to wear more like a sports watch given the extra heft. I think they are both great just depends on how you want it to wear. Don’t make a decision on cost.

Here is a DJII:

Here is a DJ41:

DJ41. In my opinion, better proportions. Added bonus is the new 3235 movement.

Both are really nice, just depends on you. I have the DJII with a silver dial and love it but will always have a soft spot for the jubilee bracelet.

DJ2 case is better, it's cheaper ATM and it will be collected mercilessly because of its unique design.

I have a DJ 41 and absolutely love it. It is dressy and understated but beautiful. The size is perfect and if you need to leave it on your nightstand for a day it does not lose the time. Overall great investment. Also, the blue sunburst dial is absolutely gorgeous!

DITTO.....I almost pull the tigger a number of times over the past several years with the DJII. So glad I procrastinated. I absolutely LOVE the DJ41 for all the reason already posted.

Mines the blue dial, fluted bezel and oyster bracelet.

I love and prefer the DJ2 for all the very same reasons the other guys don't love it:

Beefier watch, thicker markers, more brilliant bezel...
(Sure it would be great if it had the updated movement but what it does have is honestly more than fine)

This watch was not on my radar. I was in an AD a few years ago looking at my usual suspects and I spotted it and was like- what in holy hell is that?!

The blue dial catches the light and swirls just like the green fire of my Hulk. Tried it on and knew I had to have it. Pulled the trigger when I learned it was being discontinued.
