Am I crazy to flip 2 Rolexes to buy this?

Hey guys, 2 watches - 1815 UpDown & Lange 1 from ALS have caught my attention recently, but I need to flip 2 watches from my current collection to fund one of the watches from ALS since I am only looking for a brand new watch. (We all know that MSRP at Lange is pretty crazy)
Befor I make any move, would like to ask you guys if I am making the right choice.

Here is my current collection -
126710BLNR(Batgirl), 114060(Sub NoDate), 16570(Expii Polar)

My questions are -
1. Since I have to flip 2 watches, what would be the one watch that should be stay in my collection.
2. Between 1815 UpDown and Lange 1, which one will be better to join my collection?
3. Am I too crazy to flip 2 Rolexes to go for ALS?

Here is the shots I took from AD yesterday

I am for flipping Rolex models to achieve something bigger and possibly better in high horology but I don't know if I would do it in this case for a NEW ALS. There are so many good deals on the used market that you could almost flip one watch for a Lange (obviously adding some cash) and have a great collection.

It's your money and I will never tell someone what to do with it - but if I was in your shoes with your collection - I would not be doing it. Best of luck, OP and let us know what you decide.

Buy one on installment plan instead

Because your rolex are all unique. White dial, two tone bezel, non cyclops submariner

ALS is great. Though personally, I'd go for a chrono if going ALS.

And as others have said, if you are open to buying preowned, you may be able to get a better value deal.

Good luck either way. Please let us know what you decide to do.

No, don´t do it! And whatever you do (and do what you want to do!) don't get rid of your 114060! Just my 5¢ worth here...

I would just get a Lange 1 in secondary market and keep all Rolexes.

I wouldn't do it. It might be a regret you won't be able to outgrow and getting those timepieces back will be a pain in the current Rolex situation. The Lange will always be there and won't go anywhere, just save up to get one.

I say do whatever you want to do. Flip all 3 if you want. It doesn't matter what we say as a community. We shouldn't be the ones making up your mind. Ultimately, if it makes you happy, then go ahead.

1. I'd flip the Sub and the Explorer so you keep a GMT.
2. I like the Lange 1 much better.
3. You are out of your mind to think this is acceptable. Keep the Rollies and buy the Lange later.

I am not 100% certain, but are you looking at the ALS at MSRP from an AD?

If so, please stop and do not do this. You'll take a bath on the ALS if you pay retail...Even IF Watchbox is successful in manipulating the Lange market like they have been the Journe market.

Both of these models could be found on the pre-owned market rather easily. Try and sell one of the rolexes on here and use it to fund the purchase. Don't trade 2 of them unless you're certain you can get by with a 2-watch rotation.

ADD: If you want evidence of how much of a bath you'll take on the ALS, call a dealer and get a quote if you were to sell it. This was a tip another board member gave me a month ago and it was eye opening.

I don't think I'd do that. If I did though, I would probably flip the GMT alone for it, or, sell the explorer and keep saving for the ALS.

If you wear a dress watch regularly, I can see considering.

If only end up with two, then probably a Sub/Lange combo would be good.

Buy Lange used and no it's not crazy. Lange makes an objectively better watch.

Do you want a high level dress watch like Lange? Do you see yourself wearing this more than your current watches? Is value retention important to you? Only you can answer these questions.

IMO, these are entirely different watches at an entirely different price point and watchmaking level. They should never be compared in the same breath. ALS is one of the finest watch brands in the world similar to Patek.

Anyone that is blindly saying keep the rolex watches is all because of value retention. This is TRF after all, a new version of Wall St Journal.

With that being said, I would maybe start with 1 ALS (I chose U/D but Lange 1 certainly more iconic.. U/D more versatile IMO). This will give you flexibility to see how you like it before you plunge for the second one. Good luck!

I‘d sell Ex2 and Batgirl for Lange 1.
You then have a perfect 2 watch collection of SubC as toolwatch in SS and ALS 1 as dresswatch in PM.

Sell the explorer, keep the other 2, buy a dress Nomos to scratch the itch for a dress watch.

Would flip Rolex's for a ALS because Lange's are much nicer.
But need to get the ALS at a good price.
