I admire those that can wear a steel bracelet in hot weather and not be bothered by it. I am at Disney World where the heat index is 103 degrees now and wearing my 5167 on tropical standing in line for the Rockin Roller coaster. The watch is very comfortable and the strap even more so - very breathable strap despite being black. This is by far the most comfortable watch combo I've ever owned and would never part with it. After considering another PP that is twice the amount and comes on an alligator strap, I am now looking at the 5167r instead due to the strap comfort. Cheers.

I went to a Patek AD looking for the 5167 and when I saw the 5167R I was blown away. I can only afford one really nice watch: the 116719 or the 5167R. I would chose the 5167R. Absolutely stunning piece! Beautiful picture! Congrats!

I voted 5164 because: Complication > No Complication IMO.

Great shots mate! By the way, your 5167A seems to have blue lume and my 2011 5167A has green....did PP change colors? I really favor the blue tint....arrrgghh!

One thing that is missing from this discussion is the "implied" value of the GMT function. The base 5167A goes for $20,500 USD, while the 5164 goes for $36,500, leaving a delta of $16k = value of the complication. I'm not convinced that having a second hand to track a timezone is that complicated of a feature (i'm open to being "educated" if in fact this is difficult endeavour from a horological standpoint, e.g. having a chrono function). That said, i don't mind the face and buttons of the 5164, as it does have more wrist presence, however the value proposition appears off to me.

a G-shock does all those things and more… price difference and savings is not necessarily what motivates the purchase of a luxury watch.

value on the 2nd hand market would be more of a factor for me, regardless of the original price.

I don't disagree with you, but I don't think you can rationalise this hobby. The 5167r for example is £12k more than the 5167, which is much more than the cost of the gold.

That is not unique to Patek or the ref.5167, it appears to be the case for most high-end precious metals watches. Compute the price difference between the Audemars Piguet ref.15400OR and 15400ST. The difference* is over 25 troy ounces, or just over 2 troy pounds of gold!
