Sea Dwellers in Beaumont

Had a mini GTG in Beaumont TX with brother John (Beaumont Miller) this weekend.
Met his wonderful family, enjoyed temps in the 70s, drank wine wine, had Beaumont style BBQ steaks (meaning John goes pyro and uses enough wood to burn a city) shot skeet and trap at his gun club - and of course spent a few hours with loupes on vintage and modern Rolex, Patek and Omega.

Only took 1 phone pic but it captures a nice period from the SD family tree - including double red to white to matte 666.

It is an honor to be invited to meet someones family and stay in their home - I truly enjoyed it John

Super cool. Thanks for sharing.

So I know we have a double red (not sure the mk), we have a 666, I think I see a Mk 1 1665, but not sure about the other - I think I see italicized font - so a mk 2/3. I know it's not a rail.

Sounds like fun! I'm going through Beaumont all the time on our way east to Louisiana when we need to scratch the gambling itch...

I really think a matte dial 666 or a nice 1665 is next up for me...

Thanks Russ I'm glad you had a great time. Kathy and I enjoyed having you as our guest. We are looking forward to your next visit.

I learned a few things over the weekend.

1. The triple 666 is really a beast. Until this weekend I had never seen one "in the flesh".
I am very impressed. Beautiful watch Russ; thanks for sharing. Clay I understand your
passion for this watch.

2. Moderation is for ( fill in the blank ). There is something rewarding about building a big
fire even if it is to only cook four steaks. Big fires tend to leave lots of coals on the ground...
don't grill barefoot, OUCH. In addition have a hose or fire extinguisher handy just in
case it starts to burn a city . Just kidding the fire never got that BIG.

3. When grilling the steaks it's a good idea to make sure the the meat thermometer
wasn't discarded in the trash the last time steaks were cooked. My burned
foot and I finally catch a lucky break .

4. When looking at watches make sure to have a room with good lighting and/or lots of
natural light. Start looking at them early to make sure you get to see them all. Which
we did.

Until next time.

I didnt know you were from TX. Should have not discounted the user name. haha did you cook Gaucho? The TX contingent is growing and growing stronger on TRF, we might need a State of the Republic GTG sometime!

Saw this representation that explains to our small state brothers why we just dont swing by

Sounds like a great time. Did you borrow some of your brother's fine wine or open up one of your carton's?

Nice watches and wish I was there my friend...Only with a few of my bottles.

George is that lamb? Looks great. Can't go wrong with mussels and oysters either.

Ken I opened up a bottle of TOR that I was saving. My brother sent me home with the bottle over Thanksgiving.

I agree and will have to remember that next time I am over at his house. Unfortunately I won't make it for Easter. So I guess it's back to the carton for now .

Thankfully his brothers TOR (VERY VERY tasty - so good, we left only a few drops for John's wife

John, I must say - of all the amazing vintage Rolex references I louped and had on my wrist, the most breath taking is your gold GMT with the ghost insert. Please post a pic for the crew if you have one handy...

Russ thanks for bringing this one as well. It was great to see such as beautiful example. The sharp case and patina are amazing. I will see to it that the 16750 does not stray far from your wrist.

In addition it was nice to see this one on your wrist during dinner.
