The price of a gold Rolex isn't worth it unless you wear it daily.
Otherwise keep your SS variety. |

I promise you won’t regret it. I have several steel watches, they’re great but I must say that the heft and look of gold makes it tough to beat.

This is like the 5th post this week about this. Let me help you. How often will you wear it? Yes. Is it flashy? Yes. Is it worth the $? Yes. How do I justify such a purchase? Yes. Should I pull the trigger? Yes. Will I look totally pimp in it and forget every single question like this once I buy it and wear it? YES. You’re welcome. |

100% worth it, be warned that your SS watches will not get much wrist time anymore

Most of us are neither of those so it's logical to have some reservations pulling the trigger on a big purchase that is honestly somewhat silly when you really consider it....I know I did, but I don't regret it at all. Yes, it is nice knowing you can turn around and sell it if you need to and only lose a couple grand. Rolex is a great store of value. Worst case you sell in a couple months. Best case is it brings you joy beyond the monetary outlay, which is exactly how I feel. As long as you can stomach a $2-3k loss then I say go for it. Life is short. |

I bought a DD40 in YG a little over a week ago....and I just can't seem to take it off :)
Now I'm re-thinking my entire collecting plan. In the end I may end up with fewer watches but more PM. I doubt I'm the first to feel this way after wearing PM for a while. Love my Bluesy though. It'll never leave me. Cheers

Just received my WG sub today and once I put it on wondered why I waited so long. LOVE IT! I’m curious to see how much wrist time the SS SubC Date gets with this one in the line up.

I would stick with the YG if you are getting a gold watch since the WG just looks like steel at a distance (and personally I think the Hulk dial looks much better than the smurf dial). The Hulk and the sunburst blue (YG) both have similarly mesmerizing dials. I got my YG bluesy last month and it is now my daily. It is not excessively flashy and attracts no more attention than the mirrored center of the WG oyster bracelet, so I wouldn't recommend getting a smurf for the purpose of subtlety. |

I wrestle with this too. And I agree with this for the most part. Problem is now I have a lot of alternatives so I’m just going to have to expand my horizons to PM.

I pulled the trigger on mine at 25K USD.
It goes for 27.5K... And if you've saved up for it. Why not? Why wait? I got the LN when I was 25. |

I had enough watches in my collection to drive me nuts. I ended up trading them in on PM pieces to reduce the total number of watches. Whether it's several SS piece or one PM piece it ends up with the same value. Really the only question then is about liquidity. But we all know here that Rolex ownership isn't about watch value but wearing what you like.

I am thinking of selling my 16710 and 16613 to go to a 16618 or a 228238, something about the all gold is really appealing.

I pulled the trigger on a 116718 in March of 2018 and am extremely happy I did.... for me, I love YG in general so WG was not a consideration for my first PM Rolex. It never disappoints and feels SO MUCH more special than an SS piece (had a 116710 at the time I bought the yellow gold version).
Sure the price tag is large, but at the end of the day, if needed, you could always sell it and recoup most of your funds. My only word of caution is that I feel PM Rolex are so enjoyable that it’s hard (for me) to get excited about SS anymore.

If you do, go for the yellow. Black or blue dial, does not matter. I love the black/yellow myself.

PM for sure. There is nothing like it, the weight, the feel and the glow it gives is unlike anything you will get from any white metal watch. I cannot bring myself to wear anything else now. No matter what you are wearing, you are always dressed.

Yes to PM. JUST pops in a special way. Hard to explain. Here’s a yellow gold, white gold, platinum and rose gold. All are awesome to wear.
