Found a SKX173
Found it a small mom and pop watch and clock shop that sells seiko. I have a skx009 and this dial is so much more appealing with the square hour markers. Wonder why this version was discontinued.

They are hard to find. I have one from when they were not that hard to find.

They is no evidence to say that the 173 is discontinued. Enjoy the watch

Cool! I recently bought one from a mom-and-pop store, I really like the square/stick markers and never had a SKX007/009

If it’s not officially discontinued, it’s decidedly less than easily available in NIB/NOS at the major online retailers. Lots of used available on eBay however.
