Patek Nautilus 5990 - Steel vs. Rose Gold

The 5990 is one of my grail pieces and I'm curious what are people's thoughts on the 5990 steel vs. rose gold. I love them both and ideally would love to have both, but I don't think that's realistic.

5990/1A (steel)

5990/1R (rose gold)

Lets vote!!!

I like the combination of the blue dial with rose gold case. It's sublime.

Man... The presence on that watch must be unreal. This is my vote also.

Loved the RG in pictures, disliked it in person. The steel just looks so much more elegant.

Not a fan of the 5990 but steel all the way. Much prefer YG and blue over RG and blue also.

The rose gold is too bling for me, so it’s a watch I’m very happy to admire from afar, but admire it I surely will. The steel 5990 however is the most worn in my collection.

Always thought the steel was nice but I never gawked at it. The RG with blue, however, still makes me drool every time i see photos of it.

I think gold is way less flexible than steel/wg/plat.

Lots of love for the new rose gold guys. I personally love it and hoping to see it one day in person. If I had the choice to buy one or the other, I think I'd have a hard time choosing (of course these are true #firstworldproblems). Maybe one day... For now, it's just wishful thinking...

Huge 5990 fan, have owned a variety of Nautilus (Nautily?) and it’s my favorite - in SS.

5990 in SS for me although the RG is really nice too. For full RG, I like the 5980 more than 5990/1r

From pictures the RG with that blue dial, but for everyday wearability and practicality, steel wins for me. I could wear the steel practically everywhere almost everyday. Not so with the gold. Too flashy and not as resistant to scratching.

This actually a really good point about more versatile wearability of the steel compared to rose gold. Yeah, you can wear steel pretty easily, and it is significantly less flashy.

I'd take the gold, with a blue dial is a great combo.

I like the look of the gold but in general I always prefer steel over gold if it is an option. I own the steel version

Both are great, but steel for me. I will add that I am 50 years old.

Steel 100% the rose is so over the top blingy - and yes there are some times that's cool but not many so the steel would be worn way more often...it's a gmt...in this world traveling with a massive rose patek is like carrying a billboard asking to be mugged
