User Titles - HELP

Looking to change user titles for TRF.

What does everyone think ?

I need some input for the titles and the amount of post required to get that title.

You all are asking, so give me some feedback.

Mark, do you mean things like "Member", "Founder" and "Moderator"?

What about a progression like "ND Sub", "Sub Date" and "TT Sub". For banned members, we could use "Leopard Daytona".

Excellent idea, Mark. That is done at a large number of forums throughout the Net.

"Supreme Commander, CEO and Chief Tosser" for me, thanks!

If it encourages JJ to post more then I vote no!!!

That would be fine but please no Rolex related names.......I think it will confuse new members into thinking we own such watches when we may not.

Just my $0.02 Canadian......

I'm the admin of an MG forum. I use these:

Registered member
Bronze member
Silver member
Gold member
Platinum member

After a certain number of posts the members are allowed to change the title within their CP to whatever they want.

Let me ask a threshold question. Why?

Why do we need to distinguish? One of the things that I think makes this place so great is the sense of egalitarianism (that means equality for the neanderhals among you - and you know who you are, JJ ).

Seriously, though, why can't we just keep it as "members" and "mods". I admit we need to know who the mods are for contact and problem purposes, but is there really any need for a heirarchy?

I agree with Ed and Peter. We have mods and we have members. I don't see a reason to differentiate between the main body of posters. It would take a new guy a very short time to determine who the senior members are simply by reading how they are accepted and treated by the other members and they can always look at their post figures and see how many they have, as well.

I just think labeling people as "new", while boosting the the members with more time here by adding some level of seniority to them, alienates the new members and may, in some way, hold them back or even keep them from joining TRF and remaining lurkers.

I guess I'm of the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset

Just MHO though

The reason was ... someone asked.

Now my feelings on the subject aside from trying to listen to want our members want ....

I like it simple, that's why it is what it is.

Mark, you've created an amazing place here and we know how much of your time and effort it consumes. I just don't see much room for improvement here. As simple as it is, it just works

It's the old KISS principle at work at its best.

No. CEO of the tossers of course, Frans. My toilet could be the throne in my executive office, however!

Somebody has to think for you. Your head's all swelled up being elected prezzie again. Remember, when you're #1, everybody's gunning for you.

Oh, I know. It can be very lonely, and a bit scary, at the top!

However... enough of the complaining. Having the time of my life, but somehow my Rolex cap doesn't fit very well any more.

What a bunch of self-glorifying tossers you are! But to get back to the point: some forums award their most active members with a ranking it the title. JJ would thus become a supercalifragelisticexpealedotious member or something like that.

Don't pay any attention to the Dutchie, Allan. He's just upset because he dropped all the back to near the bottom of the list. He can't apreciate those who, by dint of hard work and monumental effort, have made it to the top of the list.

Thank you, Ed. You truly understand. I will remember you on your way up, you can be sure of that.

And to you, Frans...

Thank you, Allan. But from where I stand now, it appears that I will be the one to remember you on your way down. I will think kindly thoughts after I have beaten you soundly into submission.
