Rolex 5508 check
Gents,
Hoping for some advice on this one. Was told a service dial - looks matte not gilt. Serial dates to 58/59 but caseback has 63 engraved. movement is a non-butterfly 1530, was told it was replaced due to it acting up and was likely replaced with the caseback. Not 100% convinced but over to you experts. Question 1 - how does the dial look to you? the Submariner text is left aligned vs some of the other service dial which lines up exactly to the depth rating text. Question 2 - how does the bezel insert look? I have no view on this as yet Question 3 - I have yet to see a 63 serial 5508 case back.... is this aftermarket? [ |

Need photos on caseback and case engravings, plus side shots of bezel.
I like the dial - it is a legit service dial IMO.

Based on what you said and from one pic: service dial, later insert, ‘63 caseback is wrong, wrong hands.

Just an update on this and thanks for others who have chimed in (especially LS).
I dropped off the watch to RSC last week and just got confirmation that the dial is refinished so they can't work on it. This is surprising as we have all seen the exact same dial on other 5508s - ones that the big dealers have sold in the past. Here's a close up of the dial without the plexi. Any chance Rolex got this wrong? If they did, it's poor form and obviously questions their ability to actually verify vintage watches. |

Again - legit service dial ; )
Here are examples of the white print 5508 T SWISS < 24 dial on HQ I suggest you go through all of them and compare - pay particular attention to the plots. And look at the = over and slightly offset right above the A - this is the closest match. THis is from a separate printing which is why the 100m = 330ft slips left and right. It is also the same print on my 7022 service dials - I have had 3 NOS = Dials https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...nd-papers-A609 https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...iner-5508-2947 https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...vice-dial-7854 https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...iner-5508-8436 https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...iner-5508-2801
