14060 w/flat(fat) 4 ??

Hey guys,

I bought a 1994 submariner 14060 in very nice condition and when compared it with a friend of mine, mine has a flat/fat 4.

I've looked here on the forum to get an answer but haven't found it: is this period correct or a later/service bezel?

Thank you for your help!!

My 14060 (from 1995) has a flat for insert. Unlike the 16610LV, where the flat four was associated only with the earliest examples, I can't seem to find a "rule" about which inserts do and don't have that design detail. However, I haven't seen it on any of the later M versions, so perhaps it was more of a carry-over detail from the 5513 days (not the same part, but a similar look).

I'd love to know more about this as well if someone has more knowledge about it.

The insert is correct for 1994. Based on my ownership of many 16610 Submariners, the "flat 4" insert was used on the Submariners from the 1990s through mid 2004 ( or close to that time frame) when the next generation of inserts changed to a more pointed four.

Enjoy the watch!

Agree.

Mid-90's was a flat 4 time period.

This is great to know, as it appears to also answer the question behind how and when Rolex stopped using flat 4's on the coveted early LV references as well.

Two questions answered in one post!

I just checked my I phone pics from 2017 or so & my previous D serial 14060 had a Flat 4 on the bezel as well.

That is basically correct, but - it was used later than 2001. Check my response. Have you ever heard of the "flat 4" anniversary Submariners from late 2003 through mid 2004?

Yes, my K 14060M has a flat four.

Why did this thread change to 16610’s?
