What To Get For Your 50th?
To all my fellow '73 babies...what are you looking at getting (or already got) for the big 5-0, this year?
Personally, I'm eyeing one of two choices in opposite corners...either the 116509 WG Daytona w/ the blue dial... or the 126334 Datejust, also w/ the blue dial. (I like blue dials) Fortunately, my birthday is later in the year, so I have a little time to find one. I guess I'll just see how much I have saved by then, which will determine which one I get, lol! |

If you like blue dials, then you’ll LOVE the Blue SS Sky Dweller.

Good luck and happy birthday at some point this year. My 50th was in 11/21 and my SA came through with a 116500 white on my actual bday so I hope you get what you want.

Oh! I was exactly there in 2020.
Well, in 2019 I was considering my first luxury watch to get, in time for my 50th. Had always wanted a sub so thought I'd look-up the YouTubes to see more. Heard there were weird stories about waiting-lists. So popped along to a local AD to clarify this nonsense. "Hi," I said to her, "I'd like a sub!" She said, "No. And sir, you're the 17th person in just today to ask for one." So went grey. Got a 114060, six months before my 50th, to make sure I actually wanted it, but with enough time to sell it and get something else in case I didn't like it. But I LOOVVVVVVVVED it. |

What else is in your collection? Head to head/in isolation, my preference is always DJ (my favorite model in the Rolex lineup), which in this head to head saves you a bunch of cash.

How about a birth year watch? I got myself 1971 5513 and I am quite pleased.

I wanted a WG DD, but the AD didn't come through for me. Took the family on a trip instead!

Where I live, I think it’s the law that you have to get a YG DD.

I’m biased, get a 228238. You deserve it.

Traditionally: 50 = Gold
Rolex Gold = yellow, rose, white. For my 50th, I bought myself a yellow gold DD40 #228238: black dial w/ diamond markers. |

Well that was a LONG time ago for me. But personally I would choose the Blue stick DJ. Sleek, comfortable and very capable piece. I'm sure you would appreciate for life after 50. I certainly do.

In this case depends on budget. If the Daytona is doable it’s the winner by a landslide.
I was faced with this decision (40th) and chickened out and got nothing. I regret it. Good luck and happy birthday. |

75 born here. 50th is 2.5 years from now. Figured I would gift myself a Sub No Date and visited an AD and got on the list. No past history of any sorts. Hopefully will get called in time.
