It's my favorite watch that I've owned. I wanted one for a long time and last year I acquired a blue dial 116622. It's a 6 digit that wears like a 5. Extremely comfortable on my wrist. The maxi dial and hands are a bonus for me. The red second hand and text pop against the blue dial. The Easylink is more than enough for me. The Glidelock can't be beat, but I don't miss it. Can you see scratches on the PCL's? Sure. You can on a BLNR or any other watch with them also. The bezel holds up well also. It has everything I want in an everyday watch, Time, date and a rotatable bezel to track things I need to. YMMV

My blue face YM changes color from deep blue to deep black. The touch of red is striking, the weight is just enough, and the low profile fits under shirt cuffs. Neat watch.

I own a BLNR and BLRO as well as a 126621 BrownDial Everose.

I love all of them but I must say I have gotten the most complements on the YM.

My Rhodium faced YM is my favorite of ALL my watches of which some aren't Rolex's.

I really like this reference and am equally attracted to the blue dial as well as the rhodium. It would be a tough choice for me. But most of all, I love the shape of the case on these Yachties. I’m not a fan of the big, chunky lugs on the current Submariners and this watch gives you the functionality of a Sub along with a splash of color, an elegant case design and some precious metal platinum thrown in for good measure. I feel you can’t go wrong with this piece. I’m surprised that it seems like it is not loved as much as it should be. It’s literally the best of all worlds.

I love my rhodium dial. I went in the shop thinking the blue was for me. I tried them
both on and walked out with the rhodium. The light blue hands are perfect. I wear almost daily.

By far the watch I wear the most. Quiet, understated, no trying hard to impress yet full of qualities and surprises. Pure class to me.

I do have a sweet spot for that rhodium dial. Looks awesome.

I had both in hand but this dilemma held me up. Here’s a lousy photo of the blue.
Just my experience but I had the 16622 platinum dial and loved it but after a while it looked too monochromatic. I traded it in and before I chose between the rhodium and blue dial i struggled. In the end I felt the rhosium would be too similar so I opted for blue and am glad I did! It is a stunning dial and makes the watch pop!

A serious question - other than the bezel design, what differentiated a YM1 from a submariner? Even the dial options are very similar.

To me, the major difference is the Platinum bezel.

The shape and size of the cases are nothing alike either.

The case is very different from a Yacht Master and Sub to begin with.

A YM case is rounded and elegant where the Sub is blocky with sharp edges. YM has a lower profile and thinner lugs. Side by side you can see they are very different.

I had the blue, but switched to a rhodium one. Great dial looks alternately, silver to dark grey. The blue second hand and lettering really set it off.

Can’t say it’s my favorite but I do think it’s underrated. For me it sits somewhere between a tool watch (sub) and a dress watch (day date). And all dial colors look good on it

Regarding feel vs Submariner. I’ve tried on Submariners several times, but they just didn’t fit my wrist. I think the large clasp was the problem. The YM fits like my GMT. Very comfortable.

I have a 2006 16622, but that rhodium with blue accents really appeals to me.

This one, because the bezel is so clear and highly legible. I find that some YM
bezels lack contrast and rather defeat the point of having a bezel (I'm always using the bezel on my Sub for timing all sorts of things). But I have to admit to never actually handling a YM, and am only going by photos. The blue dial does look lovely, though...

I owned the blue dial and wouldn't worry about the bling factor, with the exception of being in bright sunlight I found it to appear quite a dark blue, darker than it looks in most pictures, I was actually disappointed the colour wasn't lighter or brighter, I prefer more bling
