Rolex 34mm - Can men pull this off in today's "Maxi Size" world?

Hello Everybody,

I just purchased a 2002 34mm Rolex date, silver dial with engine-turned bezel and I'm completely in love with this watch!

Now, at the beginning - (especially after wearing my daily beater the Submariner 16610 for the last few years) it felt a little small, but now after wearing it constantly feels amazing and wears bigger than I expected. Everyday, I'm amazed by the sunburst silver dial and the engine-turned bezel is unreal! The bracelet just disappears on the wrist and I forget the watch is even on the wrist - slept with it last night by accident loll

I have small wrist size (6.5) and was reading numerous posts online on how in today's "MAXI SIZE" world a 36 DJ is the smallest people would go with, so I figured that I would post something that would perhaps change their minds...

I posted a few pictures of the watch on my wrist - as well as a side-by-side with my Sub for comparison.

What do you guys think, can men pull off the 34mm Rolex in today's Maxi size world?

Thanks,

Alex

Totally as long as watch size is in accordance with wrist size.

Yes absolutely. Last year a friend of mine bought a white dial OP 34mm. It fits him perfectly and looks great. He is on this site and am sure he will chime in with a wrist shot.

I was given an OP Date 34mm 31 years ago by my parents when I graduated from university. I had it rebuilt and bought a new bracelet for it last year. I have a 7.25" wrist and a big hand and I wear mine as my dress watch. I love wearing it. If you look, your dial is almost the same size as a modern Sub or GMT. It's only the surrounding case that's smaller. I find mine comfortable and classy and I wear it with great pride. Keep it and wear the crap out of it!!!

The watch looks fine. I notice it also wears larger as the lugs look longer on this particular reference.

I don’t understand what the issue is with this whole sizing thing. People talk about 41 this and 36 that, or even, in your case 34. As far as I’m concerned, if a watch fits and looks fine on your wrist, then who cares what size case the watch is!

I’ve seen so many posts here where the comments are that “men can’t wear 36mm watches”. Why?? What if you have a smaller wrist? Should you buy the larger size to ‘conform’ to a trend?

I see a lot of posts where people post comical wrist shots, and then, get loads of congrats from others on the watch which is clearly huge on them.

I also see loads of posts where people claim their wrist size is ‘this big’ when obviously, it’s just not. I don’t personally see the shame in having a slender wrist - it has nothing to do with something else found on the male anatomy.

My wife has the exact watch, with blue dial.

Personally, it feels too small on my wrist but whatever makes the individual happy, they should do!

my dad gave me his 1501 (an earlier version of your watch) and I still rotate it with a GMT, a longines legend diver, and a Tag.

100% can be pulled off, a 34 looks better than a 44 all day every day

Take a video of yourself doing stuff with the 34 on..and then take another vid with a larger watch on..and see which one you like the look of better..
In my case for 7" wrist...the 40 just looks way too bulky and does not marry the wrist..but the 34mm does..as well as looks classier..
Flavor Flav look is a thing of the past...even though a lot of people seem to still be there lol...

I honestly think that watch looks like the perfect size for your wrist. And your Sub looks just fine as well. I actually don't believe you can really go too small with a watch. (Within reason) But I do believe you can go too big. Especially if it's an older watch, from a time when all watches were smaller .. then you can't go too small imo. I love wearing my 1972 34mm 6694 on my 7 3/4 inch wrist. Yeah it's a bit smaller than I'm used to... But I still think it looks great.

Enjoy your watch my man!

No. Pictures can be very misleading when it comes to display of watch size. 34 is way to small for a man, unless you have a super small wrist and a small builded body, it might work.

You bet! It looks perfect on your wrist. I have owned three of these (wish I still had one!) and even on my 7.25in wrist, really like the way the watch looks and feels.

There have been a couple of threads about the 34mm OP lately, and I really miss mine. Enjoy your's! That machined bezel always was a great look.

Cheers,
Carl

My boyfriend just bought a 34mm OP with a grape dial and loves the watch. It looks great on your wrist and if you're happy with it that's all that really matters. Far too much attention is paid to 2 mm here or there when it comes to watch sizes but it means there are some great values out there for some of the smaller references if you're willing to look past the number on the spec sheet and just see how the watch feels on your wrist when you try it on.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your opinion and kind words!

Frank mentioned the fact that pictures can be very misleading when it comes to display of watch size - In this case perhaps the pics that I posted are too much of a close-up.

See below two other pictures, maybe that will change things.

Thanks

Alex
