Thing are getting out of control down here..

Hey guys,

I’m really starting to worry about the growth in criminal rate down here in Santo Domingo, most especially criminals focused on watches. Over the weekend an American DJ got mugged in a restaurant for his Richard Mille and someone got mugged for a two tone YMII in a grocery store’s parking lot (which happens to be the same parking lot for the gym I go to). Yesterday someone got mugged in Punta Cana at a computer store for a Rolex (don’t know the ref). Sorry for the negative post, maybe I just need an outlet for all this stress I’ve been having about this topic but I think I’ll have to put the submariner away for awhile. It’s crazy.

Police reports have stated that the vast majority of these crimes are being done by a Venezuelan gang, a one way ticket from venezuela is about USD35 so they fly here, get a few watches and fly back next day.

Stay safe out there, hopefully this will cool off.

Unfortunately it does seem to be an increasingly growing & brazen trend. That, or the awareness via social platforms has just magnified the impact.

I’m not so sure about the Venezuelan comment by the police but I guess anything’s possible. I spent a week in Baní with my family last month, had my YM and Tudor BBB with me and didn’t have any issues. Then again I’m pretty aware of my surroundings just like I would be anywhere else.

This is why I don't travel with a watch worth more than about $1K and certainly nothing that says ROLEX on it.

Not without getting political. I'm not calling you a liar, I just don't believe it.

Do the addition..
It's gone..gone...gone..

nowadays people are getting mugged for their Canada Goose jackets in Chicago. Definitely not surprised about people getting mugged for their Rolex. Sad.

I'm sure there's plenty of domestic criminals in Puerto Rico to account for this.

I wouldn't want to get mugged for a fake either.

That’s not the way conversations should occur. You made the assumption backed up with no source. Sorry for jumping in, but it’s a pet peeve.

Don't worry, with your low-key Sub you'll be fine.

I just got back from the Domican Republic, i spent 9 days at a resort and had a great time, i wrestled with the decision on which watch to bring for a month leading up and decided in the end to wear my Seiko Sarb017. I must admit i was full of regret the whole time watching other rolex wearers around the resort, i took a few trips into the city and a few excursions and never felt at risk but maybe it would have been a different story if i had a 10k watch on my wrist.

Seems that Situational Awareness is necessary when wearing a Rolex. Not just there but everywhere. I visited NYC last October and left the Rolex home.

I’m not putting NYC down. Hell I was born in Brooklyn and lives the first 50 years of my life there. (Bklyn, Qns and Manhattan) I love the city. For me, the older I get, the more of a target I become. Just don’t feel like taking a chance.

Honestly some places are worst than others for these kind of crimes. A friend of mine had told me that in ITaly while with his family someone literally ripped the AP diver off his wrist.

This is the exact reason I rock a g shock on vacation. In and out of the pool and no one gives a shit about my g shock lol.

I was in San Juan Puerto Rico about eight months ago they were pretty much done with the clean up from Hurricane Irma. I didn't wear my Sub when I went out around town. The poverty level was high very sad.

I love it when a story doesn’t support someone’s political views so they don’t believe the story to be true. Hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha

Do you happen to know who the DJ was?

My god, I wear mine everyday in NYC, and I see about 50 a day on the wrists of people in the streets!

That doesn't follow logically.

We just don't allow weapon talk here and you're formally invited to leave for good.
