Addressing Rolex " Under the Radar "
I have seen time and again folks looking for luxury
watches in fine dress and sports models with one criteria in mind ... " Under the Radar " Ok, what does that mean ? You want to be incognito, discreet, modest, unnoticeable, blend in with the crowd, humble, ordinary, moderate, subtle, inconspicuous, understated, unobtrusive, low-key, subdued look, restrained look, prudent, stealth, undercover, covert and or surreptitious ... etc... Ok on and on you get the picture !!! Please forgive me if I've missed an adjective that fits your criteria... I tried to encompass most !!! My point is , if you want a Rolex ... If you want to wear a Rolex... All this mumbo jumbo stealth under the radar stuff actually flies out the window!!! Why ??? Wear a Timex, Swatch or Casio if you want under the radar stealth opps!!! Rolex is not under the Radar no matter how much you psych your mind or want it to be ... Yes white gold or SS is less blingy but still Rolex! That said, most people don't even give a hoot about your watch as they are too concerned with their own life matters and issues at hand !!! In conclusion: Wear what you want and can afford and don't be concerned about what x, y and z say or think because they are actually thinking of themselves and not you or what watch you're wearing!!! A Rolex is a Rolex and not anything less or more ... If you've purchased it you've earned it !!! Wear it proud and be content... Enjoy your watch whether it's a Rolex or other fine timepiece!!! Be wise and cautious at the same time and don't fret the small stuff ... That said , here's a pic of my proud daily wearer... Ask me if I care what other think or say ... Answer ? Don't care much ... |

Yup. The 3 words I dislike most here on TRF. "under the radar".
If you are that self conscience about a piece of metal wrapped around your wrist and how others might see you, simply don't wear one. Your smartphone will tell you time and date just fine! |

Dammit ! I don't give a $#π¶ 'bout what the others think bout Bluesy but I love that watch and you guys are mentally torturing me with these kind of threads
Although I still prefer the gorgeous Sunburst rather than the toned down Smurf dial |

My goal in life is to embody under-the-radar Stealth Wealth. As such, I always wear moldy flip flops, old cargo shorts, and a stained undershirt.
Most non-WIS tend to assume I'm a hobo (Good IMO... I don't want them following me home and seeing my brand-spanking-new truck and mower), but there's something those superficial fools don't know: my Smurf® is actually solid gold... am I doing this right? |

Chaps
This is a topic that really divides opinion. I like the "under the radar" watches because I hate looking conspicuous but I can fully understand someone who is extrovert wanting to be a bit flash. We will never get agreement on this on. I am seriously thinking of buying a PP as a daily beater because they are genuinely below the radar. Regards Mick |

Compared to that Sub, an Explorer or OP will definitely fly under the radar. ;-)

That's an interesting topic...it should all come down to individuality.
P.S. Nice watch |

"under the radar" to me means not having to hear the two most annoying questions:
1. is it real? 2. how much does it cost? |

I have known a few "pals" who flipped their white gold time pieces for yellow gold. I think they must of flown a bit to "much" under the radar for their liking maybe.

What a joke of a phrase when it comes it to displays of wealth.

I have worn one Rolex or another for over 30 years and never was asked either question. FWIW the average person out in the wild simply doesn't care. |

than just a watch . Clothing , shoes, vehicle , house ... etc.... One would have to strain their eyes to notice the kind of watch someone is wearing . Example, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a chap (gentlemen) at the gas station wearing a nice gold watch ! Looked like a YG Serti Sub from a distance... Only to find out it was a Michael Kors YG style men's watch designed after Rolex... |

Here's a little more "torture." Mario, point taken. I made the move from a YG DD to a WG DD for pretty much this reason. Just felt like the YG was awfully loud. And then after wearing it a couple of months, a car salesman (right?) noticed it and said, "Damn, that's one of those day dates, isn't it?" Well, so there you go... |

True, but just the notion of "under the radar" when it comes to luxury goods. We definitely try to not draw attention to our watches, clothes, etc., but to some degree, just by wearing them, you're really never 100% "under the radar".

For me, under the radar simply means that I don't necessarily want to attract any attention. I buy things for my own enjoyment and because I appreciate their characteristics.
Whether or not they are noticed by others is irrelevant to me when it comes down to it, but if I'm looking at buying a new "thing" I'll find myself generally biased towards the one that is more subdued or subtle. That being said, if I woke up one day in Opposite-Land and decided that my favourite watch in the whole wide world was a leopard daytona then I'd wear it happily every day. I generally don't pay those around me any mind anyway. |

I'm right there with ya. I recently got a new Toro and dragged it through the mud just so it wouldn't be so conspicuous and give my neighbors Mower Envy.

Some Rolex are more flashy and attention grabbing than other Rolex. Some people want to draw attention to their watch, some do not.
Simple enough. |

Just wear your gold sub or GMT everywhere. Most people will think it's an Invicta anyways... if they even notice. It's only the people who flash their watch around to get attention that actually get their watch noticed.

Both the YG and WG DD's are stunning... Either one is a winner .... A couple of years ago I went to a mechanic to fix the A/C in my truck ... I was wearing my Bluesy. One thing led to another and he notices my Sub and says " That's like a $10,000 watch you got on ? " I said it was my 10 year anniversary gift and left it at that ... |

I was always liked the saying 'money talks and wealth whispers'. Not saying it's true or not but I can tell you that I am more than happy being the only person in the room who knows my watch is solid white gold! The key is, I know it. Also, if you truly don't care what other people think, why would it bother you that they wanted an 'under the radar' watch in the first place?

Having said that, if one pays close attention and stares at it, one realises it is a Rolex, but it doesn't shout Rolex from afar. With friends and family when standing or sitting close to me, they did realise and raise the questions, followed by the usual "you are mad" or "how could you". |

There is nothing "under the radar" if you wear two-tone or anything in gold.
