The people that you really have to worry about will know what kind of watch you're wearing from across a room or from even farther away.

Everyone else is just going about their day, worrying about themselves and their own.

I understand the need for stealth in certain areas. My advice is to wear a piece of shit or keep one's sleeves down. Everyone needs at least one pos in the collection for this reason if any.

There's no such thing as flying beneath it. If the 'Rolex Radar' is turned on, people are going to recognize your watch. If the 'radar' is turned off (or non-existent) chances are the watch will go unnoticed.

Potential thieves, gold-diggers and the aspiring upwardly mobile generally have the 'Rolex Radar' turned on (as do countless numbers of watch aficionados).

Those involved with other priorities and interests usually don't.

On the weekends I wear my YG DD40 but to work I wear steel or WG and wouldn't even think about wearing the YG Day Date. Maybe not so much to be "under the radar" but more just lowering the volume.

Yes, but some Rolex are more "Rolexy" than others...a 2 tone, fluted bezel DJ or DD or a 2 tone sub, are more universally recognized than an Air King, Milgauss or Explorer...so I would consider those three as UTR

'under the radar' here might be about folks that want/have Rolex watch(es) for whatever reason(s) (ex. they are WIS) but outwardly don't want to be seen as materialistic or have people thinking/knowing they are a) irresponsible with money or b) rich.

Doesn't seem ridiculous, but I can't relate - I have to admit I don't care what people think, for good and bad.

Some people like "under the radar" and others like "some bling". Some people like black luxury sedans and other like yellow or red sports cars. At the end of the day, wear whatever will make you happy without worrying too much about what others think.

Ok, what does that mean ?

You want to be incognito, discreet, modest,
unnoticeable, blend in with the crowd, humble,
ordinary, moderate, subtle, inconspicuous,
understated, unobtrusive, low-key, subdued look,
restrained look, prudent, stealth, undercover, covert
and or surreptitious ... etc...

Ok on and on you get the picture !!!
Please forgive me if I've missed an adjective that
fits your criteria... I tried to encompass most !!!
My point is , if you want a Rolex ...
If you want to wear a Rolex...
All this mumbo jumbo stealth under the radar stuff
actually flies out the window!!!
Why ???
Wear a Timex, Swatch or Casio if you want under the radar
stealth opps!!!

Rolex is not under the Radar no matter how much you psych your
mind or want it to be ... Yes white gold or SS is less blingy but still Rolex!
That said, most people don't even give a hoot about your watch as they
are too concerned with their own life matters and issues at hand !!!

In conclusion: Wear what you want and can afford and don't be concerned
about what x, y and z say or think because they are actually thinking
of themselves and not you or what watch you're wearing!!!
A Rolex is a Rolex and not anything less or more ...
If you've purchased it you've earned it !!! Wear it proud and be content...

Enjoy your watch whether it's a Rolex or other fine timepiece!!!
Be wise and cautious at the same time and don't fret the small stuff ...
That said , here's a pic of my proud daily wearer...
Ask me if I care what other think or say ...
Answer ? Don't care much ...
This was/is my exact opinion on Rolex 20 years ago when I purchased my Bluesy and wore it every day for 15 years. This was before the internet or contemporary social economic guilt values. A Rolex under the radar is like pretending a brown Lamborghini blends in the Walmart parking lot.

We'll. Someone already said it, want to be "under the radar?" Wear a Patek. Wear an AP. Wear a Lange. Wear a Nomos. Wear a Seiko. Rolex? Sorry. Much of the world knows it's a pricy brand. BUT in first world countries most people don't even see a watch anymore.

Whenever anyone I don't know asks about my subc I tell them it's a fake Rolex.

I love my watches, but it's a thing for me; not everyone else. If a true watch lover wanted to talk I would be happy to do so.

Annoying is right! My boss's boss asked me if that was a Rolex and he wanted to know how much it cost. Ugh.

I can't really say that having a POS is a necessity for anything.

I own many inexpensive watches, but I don't consider any of them POSes, even the ones that have bitten the dust for whatever reason.

I don't wear YG because it doesn't suit me. I wear whatever I like but I travel on survey with my G-Shock and never wear a Rolex or a PAM. Some of the places I've wound up in are not safe to take an iPhone out of my pocket so a luxury watch is a no-no.

It is to be noticed. It says "hey I can afford this Rolex,( PP, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Prada).

Like it or not, cars, designer brands, all luxury brands are to be noticed.
I was recently gawping in a Rolex AD's window in San Marco, Venice which as you know is very touristy. I got sucked into a group of 4 Rolex wearing tourists who were raving about the SD43 on display and also chatting about Rolex in general.

The chat lasted about 10 minutes and each one of them flashed the DJs and Subs and not one of them noticed the Freccione Explorer that I was wearing. It was the most valuable one being worn and not one of them noticed it. That is what you call under the radar and that's why I am now looking for a PP as no one ever notices them.

Regards

Mick

I meant it affecctionately. I like my Sekonda but it's definitely a pos. It looked ok for about 2 months. I expected far better for the £40.00 reduced retail price let alone the £90 it should have been. It also steams up when washing hands so the 50 metres water resistance as stated on the dial and caseback was a lie! All this being said it's still going so the Miyota movt inside is quite a trooper.

Okay. I see your point. Personally, I would have retired that one--probably.

Mario you're the one who convinced me to go Bluesy instead of a 114060.

For me I feel that no matter what watch you wear, if other people like it then it will get attention. You could get mugged, you could get snyde remarks, or you could meet a WIS who will actually know the difference between a guilloche and a hair spring.

I guess there are several other ways to wear a $5k+ watch:

- find a new brand that costs $15k apiece; nobody would know
- buy a Patek and have the dial mutilated to remove the PF logo
- buy a Patek and don't remove the logo; what? 2% of the people on earth know what a Patek is?
- buy a Lange; nobody has any idea who they are
- buy a decent Seiko; nobody knows that they make some good mechanical watches

I still recommend a poopiece when away from your safezone. I think we can all agree that violence isn't the answer. Wouldn't it be sweet to hand over a worthless ticker to an unsavoury person who may be aware of your hobby/what you're likely to have on you? Beats the 'well I'm insured against theft' argument for me. No way I want to hand over my babies - here's my Sekonda *tear

I think when most people ask about under the radar they mean the least noticeable. All Rolex are inherently flashy to some extent... it a Rolex.

Whatever. Most people don't notice your watch anyways.
