Are the Nautilus or the Aquanaut considered "swimpruf" as Rolex would say?

They have a screw-down crown and a water rating to 120m, so I can't see how it'd be less safe than swimming with a datejust?

I spent about an hour at a PP AD today and looked over an Aquanaut pretty thoroughly. I really liked it. I too at first was put off by how light and thin it is, which at first glance seems like a cheapness, until I started noticing just how superbly finished the watch was, and it became clear to me light weight and thin is not necessarily a sign of lower quality or strength, the watch was light and thin and yet seemed tough at the same time. Even the rubber strap with deployant seemed uncommonly well made.

One thing I wasn't aware of until today, this mvt is non hackable! I assumed it was but it's not, meaning very tough to set it to the second, which might actually be a GOOD thing for me. :) I can see myself wearing one, now I just need some money. :)

I still think that PP need to make 5980 bigger size. Now is too small .. that makes me think twice to buy this watch .. and never do it.
For this expensive watch , I think its too small.

No, 40 mm is plenty big enough. Oversized watches are a short-term fad that is already becoming passe.

I tried one on, the bracelet did seem very light, but not in a bad way.

It's an awesome watch but I agree with some, it's more of a dress watch than my AP 15300, mine is just a little bulkier.

The Nautilus compares better to an AP 15202.

As much as I like Patek Philippe watches I don't think I'd pay that much for a Nautilus (or an Aquanaut for that matter)...I'd rather use this money and even put a bit more and buy myself one of those pieces from the Complications collection in Yellow or Rose Gold! Moonphase indicators and annual calenders attract me more than having a watch I can bring with me and my ducky duck in the bath!

I find the Nautilus (any of them) exceptional, however I completely agree that Patek pricing has gone absolutely nuts--to the point that the original introductory MSRP of the 5711/1A of around $18,000 seems completely reasonable now. (The current Aquanaut--the Nautilus's lesser relative--costs more than that now) Hard to believe I picked up a 1st gen. Aquanaut (5166/1A) around 2001, and was under 10K for it---on a bracelet no less! (And a 5107R Calatrava came in at around $12,000...imagine that, and then look at what the equivalent 5127 lists for now.)

But in fairness to PP, Rolex and most other luxury watch brands have correspondingly raised their prices into the stratosphere as well, to the point that those of us who did buying even a short 5-8 years ago sort of have to go, "Wow. What happened??" To be honest, there's not much I'm interested for me these days in buying new, from ANY brand I like...and if I've got it already, I'm doing my damndest to hold on to it!

But getting back to the 5711/1A and other Nautilus---the integrated bracelet is very refined, but its thinness makes it less "robust" than what you'd expect coming from the newer style solid Rolex Oyster equivalents. One bracelet from Patek where an argument COULD be made that craftsmanship really doesn't suit the asking price is in the instance of the 5167 Aquanaut: the damn thing has removable links not with the screws you'd expect and demand--but FRICTION PINS, not unlike the old Bond-style Omega Seamaster! Fine on a retail @ 2K sports watch perhaps, but on a $20,000 steel watch with no complications beyond a date, that's just unexcusable, no matter what seal you wish to stamp on the bridge of your movement

Patek is an acquired taste, pedigree and exclusivity isn't cheap.

I will say you really have to experience their full collection to find the right one for you. Finding the right match isn't easy due to limited selection at AD's I personal have only been able to try on a 5980 and a world time I found the worldtime to small and kinda underwhelming but the 5980 was very nice I loved the thickness but still having a small frame. So don't give up on Patek yet.
