5524 Strap Change

Anyone know how to properly take the pin buckle off the strap of a 5524G without scratching it? It seems you need to pinch the leather strap where the pushpin goes through, but the leather is way too rigid and won't budge. I wonder what PP used in the first place when putting it on.

its really easy to get off for me. I hate removing straps myself but this one i take off every time i clean my watch.

Edit: never mind... you are referring to the buckle. I have no idea how to get that off but yes i think if the strap comes off easily then the buckle should too, but it doesnt. I was going to get a second strap for mine, but i probably wouldn't have done it without also getting a separate buckle too.

Do you mind checking the inner part of the buckle where the pin is located? I just don’t see how you can’t scratch it the slightest when trying to remove the pin.

It’s very easy to do. There’s a spring bar inside, same type as on the lugs. Use a tool to depress it, you have to move the leather out of the way a little but you won’t damage it. I did mine to change from the standard strap to a short.

Thanks for the response.
The issue is that I can’t seem to move the leather out of the way being too stiff.
What tool did you use for this?

A regular spring bar tool with the forked end. The leather only has to be pushed down about 1/8”.

OK will give it a try...hope I don't scratch anything.
Will most likely tape up the buckle as much as I can.
