Dropped off for service
My Patek has gone away for service. The pic is the last shot I took of her before handing her over. I was quoted 21 weeks for a basic service that included replacement of some parts due to wear and tear. Nothing was wrong but she is 12 years old and never been serviced. Hopefully we will be reunited ASAP. I’ll keep you all posted once she returns.

Why don't they just have you send in a deposit to keep your place in line and your word that you will send it in when they are a few weeks away from actually working on it. It's not like they open it up five months before they finish it, right?
It's like saying, "The doctor has no openings until July 3rd, but please wait in the waiting room from now until then."

One watch start to finish at a time seems actually more inefficient.

This would be my expectation too - most efficient would be to wait until there are 'enough' of a certain movement/ model in for servicing and then process through as a batch.

That movement is basically bulletproof. It would have kept ticking for another decade, but yeah rock on man.

Is there anything wrong with letting a competent watch repairman work on it? My guy charges $200 for chronos or triple date moonphases he's never let me down.

It will NOT be back in 21 weeks.
I'll be shocked if so. I think you're looking closer to 9 months. |

If you trust them sure. I would never use anyone but HSWA to service a patek unless I needed some sort of casework done (laser weld etc).

Ouch if true. I wouldn't be surprised from some of the other data points around here. But still, I hope for the OP that this watch comes back sooner than advertised!

My 5170 took 7 months. My 5205 took 9 months. Your 5070 is well out of production - unless things have improved in Geneva, then I'd say that even a year could be possible. |

Not to worry Alex. I have sent many watches into Geneva for service. They are usually spot on with the time estimate. I just got a call from Razny and my 3919 is back 12 weeks to the day.

Five months - that's insane. Sorry, but I wouldn't put up with that from a high-end brand such as PP. Sounds like they need to get their customer liaison and service facility sorted. Mad.

1. Associated with an AD 2. PP certified 3. With a PP parts account First time I had it serviced I had a dealer send it to PP for me; it cost around $900, came back with the tropical strap cracking, and had another complete breakdown 4 years later. Next time, I took it to an AD's watchmaker, who fixed it for about $600 and it's been working perfectly for nearly 7 years. |
