He consulted with the consignor and gave me a call a little while later - she thought the watch was practically worthless because of the condition (she thought the Omega was worth much more) - she was elated that I had done the research and stopped them from replacing parts, and happily accepted my offer. I'm still in a bit of shock, and lucky to have an understanding wife who trusts me. I will take some time to figure out what to do with the watch; I would love to keep it and enjoy it for a while, but then need to find someone who will service it correctly/sympathetically and figure out what to do with the bracelet (is it worth repairing?). Any guidance would be appreciated. What a business trip it's been...
haha if only all "consignor" thought old rolex watches were worthless!

She’s home and tucked away in the safe.

Serial number starts with 695; I assume that’s appropriate?

Bracelet clasp looks like it has a “4” above “60”, not sure what that means. Is there a way to tell the bracelet reference? End links are 80.

I tried to take some pictures but it’s hard using a phone at night trying to get light from a desk lamp...

Killer find ..congrats...I’d look for a nice rivet bracelet to strap on that beauty...the bracelet with it looks pretty toasty as it is but worth keeping for sure

Looks like you got a great find and credits to you for your transparency!

The watch looks in amazing condition with a near flawless dial, sharp case with the original bevels. I hope your wear it and not sel to make a profit. This 1675 variant is very sought after to say the least. Congrats!

Amazing find AJDay, and 10/10 for your honesty with the seller. What am I missing about the sold watch in the Sotheby's link? How does that fetch £85k? And how do they get so far off with their original estimate?

What a wonderful watch and story! Many congrats. About the bracelet: it's 6636 and the springs are gone. Not so bad as it appears... it needs a restoration.

Enjoy it :)

Pretty sure 4 over 60 on bracelet is date code for the bracelet indicating it's fourth quarter 1960.

I had a watchmaker open her up; the movement is very clean!

Movement is caliber 1560. I didn’t look closely at the caseback after seeing 1675, so not sure what the smaller markings are.

1 in a 1000 shot...wouldn't happen to be 695609?

Looks like Caseback is marked 2nd quarter 1961.

I have a 61 GMT with serial number 694xxx so 695xxx sounds correct.

The watch bracelet just needs its springs replaced to remove all the stretch, I believe they are "Z" shaped.
