Changing Straps
I was curious as to whether people change (leather) straps on their PP's by themselves or do they take them in to get them done by a watchmaker at their AD?
Its quite easy to remove and replace the straps themselves given the ease of taking out the spring bars etc but the removal of the deployant clasp can be a bit tricky given the size of the small screw. When guiding the spring bars back into the lug holes its a bit of a hit a miss process - is it just me or do other people sometimes scratch the inside of the lugs when guiding the spring bars back into the lug holes? |

On the spring bars, you can do them yourselves easily if they have the quick release. If you are worried about scratching the lugs on the bottom, put scotch tape on the exposed area. You can buy high quality screwdrivers from Otto Frei. You may want to use Loctite on the deployant screw.

thanks Michael - that's very helpful.
Is it just me or has anyone else managed to scratch the inside of their lugs whilst trying to guide the spring bar into the lug hole? |

i have good luck installing the strap with the watch head facing down on a towel. When you insert the strap end without the quick release, the spring bar will be more apt to line up. Then pull the quick release end and push that end down.

My 5227j has a quick release. I have three strap colors: brown, burgundy, and black. I swap straps myself to match different shoe-belt combinations.

Saw this thread and have a pertinent question. I have a 5227 and want to order a strap from Camille Fournet; however, I’m not sure if the strap will have the quick release slot for the spring bars. Would anyone know if CF does this?

I bought some straps from CF and a quick job with a new razor blade solved the problem. Took literally 2 mins.

Seeing as they do bespoke straps and they do the straps for Patek I’m betting they will accommodate you. Interested to know if you find out

I believe they do offer quick release slots. I looked into this company last year, after realizing how much I had overpaid for my two other Patek straps (black and burgundy). I recall their order form had something for quick release slots. They may have called it something else. CF manufactures the straps for Patek, so you just need to know all the specs for what to order.

The widths for the 5227 strap are 19x16 mm. The lengths are 115 and 75 mm. The padding for the 5227 strap is “rounded” to complement the curved nature of the body.

I have used flat straps (2-3mm), without any padding and very much like them on a thinner case watch I expect CF would make a recommendation for a particular reference with an email?

The strap for 5227 has round holes. The thickness is stated as 3.7 mm on the packaging. I just measured the thickness of one of my straps with a micrometer as 3.9 mm close to the lugs, 3.7 mm about one inch down the strap, and 2.6 mm near the holes.

You’re welcome. I’m glad that I could help.
Let us know how it turns out. I’m thinking of ordering a few straps from CF as well. |

In a CF order there's a note field. You should write "S'il vous plait, Targettes Patek / quick release springbar cutouts." and they will make it so... |
